Apparently, this album is going to be the "yellow album", and the first single is titled "(If you're wondering if I want you to) I want you to". It comes out August 25th. With that being the title of the first single, things really don't seem that promising.

Fact: What Weezer became post-pinkerton is what Kurt Cobain feared for Nirvana, and the mere thought of this ultimately lead him to suicide.

I love SOME Weezer, but it should surprise no one that their career has taken this direction. Right from the beginning, Rivers gave every indication that it would: "My favorite rock group, Kiss..." - "In the Garage"

Hoping for anything out of these guys now is masochism, not optimism.

Weezer's one of those bands that gets this insanely generous free pass from fans who breast fed to Blue & Pink. Part of that free pass is the bashing that goes to songs like these - while it might seem rough, the level of complaining is way, way more restrained than if it were some no name band. And I think it's because we all desperately hope that somewhere, somehow, Weezer will shine again.

But they won't. I remember hearing how proud Cuomo was that he had dissected every Green Day & Nirvana song in some sort of notebook, complete with chord progressions and song structures. And I swear, from Green on, Cuomo's songs sound like they were written by a guy who dissects songs.

Speaking of free passes, Stereogum seems to LOVE weezer, for some god knows why reason.
