Weezer's Seventh Album Gets A Title

thubmnail icon: Weezer's Seventh Album Gets A Title

When we posted the power pop anthem "(If You Are Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To" yesterday, there was at least a bit of hope that Weezer would pull things together on album seven. That was 24 hours before we knew the name of album seven. The title? It's Raditude. I'm not kidding. (Thanks for the tip, Steve.) The (sorta) explanation:

Via Karl's Corner at weezer.com:

....the album that the new single is drawn from, Weezer's 7th Album due out on October 27, DOES INDEED have a title, and the title is "Raditude"! "Raditude"?? WHAT is "Raditude"? WHO is "Raditude"? WHERE is "Raditude"? WHEN is "Raditude"? HOW is "Raditude"? DONDE ES "Raditude"? QUIERO "Raditude"? Là où "Raditude"? Pourquoi "Raditude"? Quand "Raditiude"? Quel "Raditude"? Waar "Raditude"? Waarom "Raditude"? Wanneer "Raditude"? Welke "Raditude"? Wo "Raditude"? Warum "Raditude"? Wenn "Raditude"? Welches "Raditude"? Dove "Raditude"? Perché "Raditude"? Quando "Raditude"? Quale "Raditude"? Raditude "Raditude"? ...."Raditude"?

The Jacknife Lee and Butch Walker-produced Raditude is out 10/27 via Geffen.

Even though Weezer and I have been divorced for nearly a decade, its actions still cause me emotional damage.

Do they not realize the people that grew up listening to them are now in their mid to late twenties?

20s? Try early 30s.

Rivers just posted on his Twitter, thanking Rainn Wilson (Dwight from The Office) for the album title. They collaborated on a cover of Joan Osborne's "One of Us" a few months ago. Make of that what you will.

Let's say twenties and thirties for the sake of argument. I'm 25, Blue Album was the first CD I bought with my own money. But we have to remember they gained a ton of young fans in the 00s with Beverly Hills, Hash Pipe, Island in the Sun, Pork & Beans, etc.

Maybe the real album title is "Latitude" but since Weezer & Rivers have such an obsession with Japan (it's understandable because that's where their fans that are left are) they figured they'd just spell it phonetically for the hello kitty set.

So it's totally logical that Rainn Wilson is the Yoko Ono of Weezer now.

Put things in perspective. It's just an album title.

Actually, I was going to play the dissenter but I can't -- that title is somethiing I would shrug off in seventh grade. Maybe they're trying for the middle school demographic in this Guitar Hero age. I'm not going to cry over it though, jeez.

I think it's great that they guys are keeping their youthful creativity and going with a title like Raditude... The younger generation needs a little Weezer and us old folks can enjoy the spark of adolescence in a name.

People keep saying negative things about weezer, but ironically enough they keep writing about weezer. If you guys hate them so much why do you care to write about weezer fuck-off and pick on the many gay bands and music that is going on now a days. Weezer will always be weezer one of the most praised bands with a huge number of true fans, divorced fans, or hater fans however you want to call them. There aren’t that many bands like weezer, green day and foo fighters anymore. These bands will always be on top of the other million little bands of the 21st century.

I hate to be "that guy", but Weezer kind of died once Matt Sharp left. I have a hard time listening to any band where only one member is left. Yet, with Weezer, I want to hate them for the buffoonery they have released in the past years, but they will always have a place in my heart.

"I have a hard time listening to any band where only one member is left."

Um, the last time I checked, 3 of the 4 original members are still in Weezer. Matt Sharp is the only original member that has left. Perhaps you are thinking of Smashing Pumpkins?

UHHH YEAH There are only 2 original members left, Jason Cropper was replaces during the recording of the Blue album by Brian Bell... pff get your Weez-facts straight!

Jason Cropper didn't even play on the Blue album, his parts were re-recorded by Rivers. Though Brian Bell did contribute a little to recording the Blue album. So does that even really count as Cropper being an original member? My point is that the core of Weezer has remained intact since the Blue album, with the exception of Matt Sharp's departure. That is hardly a situation of "where only one member is left" of a band, like Smashing Pumpkins. You are a fucking idiot.

Brian Bell played on Pinkerton. I think that makes him an honorary original member.

Umm, yeah, even late thirties. If you were, say, 20 or 25 when Blue was released you be (approximately) 35 of 40 now! lol I'm in the middle there myself. I actually wonder if another break wouldn't do them some good. But hey, Weezer gotta eat. Regardless, I actually like the title of the album. I'm a language nut and I like it when people play with words to create new ones. Dictionary bound? Probably not. But it's still pretty catchy. And, although nobody has mentioned it, it's actually a continuation of titles like Pinkerton and Maladroit. Which aren't exactly the most straight forward album titles ever - we've just grown used to them.

thats the sickest fuckin word ever, raditude. it goes with out saying that as an album title, raditude, is really fuckin sick. Why come you be so lame? The worlds too serious as it is and all these munchkins posting on sites acting like cool make it a little funnier, to me, and but whoa, grow up, shut up, get a fuckin raditude, bitch. ill say fuck again, fuck. I cant believe i actually wrote on this fuckin rag.

If half of these comments are serious, than Weezer's fans are bigger morons than I ever dared imagine.
Honestly, how can people still drape themselves over the carcass of a band that made a record you loved nearly 15 years ago? It's astonishing the excuses people here make for them. They just finished a tour with Blink 182, for god's sake. Who do you imagine them to be?
Cuomo is like some sort of cult leader. He probably can't believe there's still a handful of dopes out there willing to give a tinker's fuck about anything he does. What a scam. I'm glad you liked the first album when you were 16. You're fucking 31 now. Move on.

all these comments, good & bad, only prove that the weez is still hella relevant. if they truly sucked then CoS, Pitchfork, Stereogum, ect ect wouldn't be writing about them the very moment new info comes out. for all you vocal haters, there must be a love in other places. its kinda funny when the music sites get snarky with weezer. they're pretty original in their approach and you don't see bands their age so blatantly doing what they want to do. they don't give a hoot about what you think - how rock is that! weezr4eva

ever since the Weez took to the stage with the glittery, winged "W" back during their Green album tour, I've been waiting to hear Butch Walker's name in a sentence with them. 10/1 odds Butch-man joins them on tour - get ready for The Marvelous 5, for better or worse...

I feel like you can't hate on any band that has a "sound"...Weezer has a "sound" and they're kind of the kings of powerpop--I think a lot of people like them because they're kind of a breath of fresh air in today's music world...they're somewhere between all the pretentious bands based in Brookyln--and the kings of the radio/top 40...I like them and I think they're original.

Agreed. Finally heard the new track on the local althy moderny rock station last evening, followed by a song where an actual lyric was "and you still want to kill yourself" (or something very close to that). The second song was one in a line of 10,000 form just as many bands that sound exactly the same. Melancholy distorted guitars and whiny singers going on about being miserable. Bleh. Very much brought home what I love about Weezer. FUN! Even when Rivers writes about something sad it's still done in such a way as to make you want to pogo and rock out. Other than the Red Album, which still hasn't really grown on me completely, I don't fully understand all the hatred in the last few Weezer posts here at Stereogum. If you don't like them anymore, cool - your choice. But maybe you should just move on instead of trying to convince other portions of their extremely loyal fan base how much they suck. Because honestly, very little has changed about anything Weezer does since the very beginning. Sit down and listen to every album back to back (which really doesn't take that long) and then explain to me what the major differences are. Please.

I have always liked Weezer. I am glad all the albums dont sound the same; how lame that would be. And who the f really cares what other people opinions are about the music? It's funny that the people who say "oh, i wish they sounded more like the Blue album era." Get over it. You sound like your girlfriend just broke up with you. Step back from the ledge.
