Weiland Responds To Velvet Revolver Firing

thumbnail icon: Weiland Responds To Velvet Revolver Firing

That was a pun, but also, it's true. Maybe you've had enough Velvet Revolver for the time being, but since we've followed the soap opera this far, we can't leave you with a cliff hanger. Responding to being axed by the remaining Revolvers, Weiland's one-upped 'em in the bitchy prose department with a statement he sent to MTV via email sometime today. We all knew he'd issue one of these before he got down to writing new STP songs...

Via MTV:

"After reading the comment by Duff, Matt, Dave and the illustrious 'Guitar Hero,' Saul Hudson, a.k.a. Slash, I find it humorous that the so-called four 'founding members' of Velvet Revolver, better known to themselves as 'the Project' before I officially named the band, would decide to move on without me after I had already claimed the group dead in the water on March 20 in Glasgow ... In response to Slash's comment regarding my commitment [to the band], I have to say it is a blatant and tired excuse to cover up the truth. The truth of the matter is that the band had not gotten along on multiple levels for some time. On a musical level, there were moments of joy, inspiration, fun ... at times. But let's not forget the multiple trips to rehab every member of the band had taken (with the exception of one member -- no need to mention his name)."
"Personally speaking, I choose to look forward to the future and performing with a group of friends I have known my entire life, people who have always had my back ... This also speaks to my commitment to my music and my fellow bandmates in [Stone Temple Pilots] and to the fans who I feel would much rather watch a group of musicians who enjoy being together as opposed to a handful of discontents who at one time used to call themselves a gang."
In conclusion, Weiland warned fans not to be "fooled by veiled trickery," and even wished Velvet Revolver his best. "Good hunting, lads -- I think Sebastian Bach would be a fantastic choice." Former Skid Row singer Bach, who has also performed on Broadway and been a regular on VH1 in recent years, was in the running to be Velvet Revolver's lead singer in its early days.

Ouch, a Guitar Hero dis! This is the most fun we've had via MTV since Weiland's other band were in their prime. Let it never be said the man can't write a post-worthy letter.

The Other Matthew

I don't know why, but this drama has actually made me almost think about liking Scott Weiland a bit. Still, this is an awful lot of SERIOUS BUSINESS for such a forgettable band.

Hopefully people will finally admit that VR was nothing but the third incarnation of Slash's Snakepit.

I don't know about others but I'm intrigued by a STP reunion. Not that I think any new music that could come out of it is great but it's fun to have a nostalgic trip now and again. If STP is half as good as they were [live] in '96-'97, I'd take it.

Does he even know that no less than 4 different STP songs have been used in Guitar Hero/Rock Band?

Scott Weiland is an incredible artist / vocalist, too bad VR had internal conflicts. However Scott will endeavor to perservere with his former band. I'm sure they'll kick out a few rocking tunes before their through. I'm excited to see wht happens, very nostalgic. As far as Scott ripping on Slash for the guitar hero thing and STP songs being on guitar hero: Slash is like the front man for the video game so that's why he used it as a dig.

STP was a good band but I think Velvet Revolver is much better. By the way, he did not soley name the band. Anyway, I would prefer Sebastian as the lead singer. I think he could bring much more to the band than Scot ever did anyway.

did i just hear someone saying that VR is better than STP? what universe do you live in? STP is legendary and will go down as one of the greatest rock groups EVER. I dont think i can remember one VR song on top of my head. Slash and Co are just bitter than their frontman's about to kick off a stadium tour. Maybe they should grow some balls and direct their bitterness towards Axl Rose again

VR was "potentially" a better band than STP. Problem is that to many fans of STP will always blindly jump to STP's defense because they are too close to the source material. The only thing STP had over VR is time. The majority of their run, STP sounded like Pearl Jam... The final judge on all of this however is "evan". He is so important in the world of music that if he can't remember one VR song (due to his age and alzheimer's) then the band is garbage.
