What Will Replace "Rock And Roll Part 2"?
Newsweek reports:
The NFL has effectively banned stadiums from playing Gary Glitter's "Rock and Roll Part 2" after the Brit rocker was convicted of molesting underage girls in Vietnam, prompting a search for a substitute celebratory anthem. The Denver Broncos switched to Big Bad Voodoo Daddy's "Go Daddy-o"; Kansas City Chiefs fans voted for P.O.D.'s "Boom."Meanwhile, the Pats are asking fans to pick a replacement:
Beginning this 2006 season, the New England Patriots will be using new music after scoring touchdowns! We'd love to hear your opinion."You may also suggest a song not listed above." Stereogum says: The Go! Team!NOTE: You can check out which song is the new touchdown song on September 10th at Gillette Stadium when the Patriots take on the Buffalo Bills. If you can't be at the game, the results will be posted on Patriots.com just after kickoff.
The 1812 - Overture
Ain't Talkin' Bout Love - Van Halen
Elevation - U2
Song 2 - Blur
Thunderstruck - AC/DC
Yeah - Usher

just because DLR was never convicted doesn't mean he didn't molest a few underage girls over the years. i hope that song wins.

I love that band Overture. Though their "The 1812" can't compare to Suite's "The Nutcracker."
Also a big fan of Six's "Symphony #."

No 2Unlimited or "Cotton Eye Joe" to choose from? How can that even pretend to be a suitable list?

you'd have to be a damn fool not to pick thunderstruck, especially if it's culled from ac/dc live.

Yeah, I heard R&R Pt 2 after the Pavel/Agassi match last night and was like "WTF."

Why does it even matter? Because he's a huge pervert means his songs don't rock?
Sorry, but I remain a Glitter [music] fan.

Andrew WK...any song really. Or Queen.

i think "huddle formation" is actually quite apt. though i know very little about football, i do know there are huddles on occasion.

Let's bring back "Who Let The Dogs Out" because rappers and hip-hop artists *never* get in trouble...

Yeah, I'm with Sean on this. Rock & Roll Pt. 2 is a quality sports music theme and I have no problem hearing it at sporting events. Michael Jackson has (allegedly!) molested a bunch of kids, and that doesn't stop me from rocking some P.Y.T. on a regular basis.
Oh, BTW, while we're on the topic, there is a CHANCE that Gary Glitter killed JonBenet Ramsey: http://www.joeyheadset.com/archives/2006/08/who_killed_jonb.html

Ugh... I should be clear about this: When I said "that doesn't stop me from rocking some P.Y.T. on a regular basis" I meant the SONG. I was not suggesting that I have sex with children.

The chorus of "Rock With Me" by Vince Diamond would be amazing:

I have this strange thing where I start out humming "Rock and Roll part II" in my head and before I know it it melds into the Fall's "Big Priest." They have similar drum beats and guitar parts.
I would love it if stadiums started cranking it.
"Rock the records, rock the records, the guys rock records!"

Agreed Joey.
(About still digging Michael Jackson & Gary Glitter, and also about not molesting children)
It's not like they were using "Do You Wanna Touch?" when the players were coming out.

Tressel, here. Coach Jim Tressel. I'm a big fan of Track 1, Panther Dash off Thunder, Lightning, Strike. In fact, this fall I'm initiating a process to permantly enstate it as the new Ohio State Fight Song. Let me also say, that as an artist, I still enjoy Gary Glitter. After all, just because R. Kelly tinkles on his underage strange doesn't stop me from puttin on some of his slick tasty grooves every time I want to get tender with some sexy young co-eds(of legal age).

Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries." Really gets the crowds fired up (like at Nuremburg). Oh wait, yeah, he was a virulent anti-Semite. But still...
The AC/DC, Fall and Sweet picks are goodies. Funny, Sean.

please don't ever mention the Kansas City Chiefs again. i thought they were bad enough, but POD as their theme music? just when i thought Carl Peterson couldn't suck even more...he does.

How about "I'm still your fag." by Broken Social Scene. . .I think BSS did a football theme'd video to that tune that was hilarious.

Maybe the following:
"The Worlds Greatest" by R. Kelly
OR
"Don't stop until you get enough" by Michael Jackson
OR
"My Generation" -The Who (Townshend)
OR
"Great Balls of Fire" - Jerry Lee Lewis

Y'all are probably going to jump down my throat for this one, but Bruce Channel's "Hey Baby" (from Dirty Dancing) was always a hit at Penn State games. Hard to argue with something that makes pretty much every person in a stadium that holds 103,500 people get up and dance. Granted, alcohol and the freezing cold may have played a part...
"Pinball Wizard" was also a favorite, although a strange choice.

Being from Boston (and hopefully going to at PATS game this year), I'd like to see BLUR "Song 2" be the mainstay of all touchdowns, goals (NHL and soccer), but that's just me. I mean, you could pretty much play the whole song, from the time a TD is scored 'til the time the extra point is kicked. It's perfect for sporting events and always will be.
Besides, I'm glad that Gary Glitter song was banned - i always thought it was so cheesy and lame, and the sound of the main beat, the double-layered drums, was basically a rip off of Lennon's "Instant Karma."
It would have been better and funnier if "Instant Karma" was played after every TD in football - you know the line, "Instant Karma's gonna get you."
But no sports arena would've been allowed to use it, anyway.

I'm surprised Andrew WK didn't make the list. He's stadium ready.

how bout no song at all. pop music at pro sporting events is killing the true spirit of fandom. english soccer crowds have their collection of creative chants. the best we can must is the mindless 'de-fense' rant that has infected nba arenas.
