Where The Streets Have ... The Futureheads!

We actually thought ahead to buy tickets to tonight's Franz Ferdinand/Futureheads gig at Rothko, but they're at will call under Cara's name. And Cara's in Toronto on business! Oh well. I have her kitten hostage, so she'll have to make it up to me.

We're going to Soundtracks Live instead, so it's not a total loss.

But I wanna see some Futureheads reviews here tomorrow! Delays too.

In the meantime...

SCOTT! I have the tickets at my apartment waiting for you and my sister can let you in. You have no excuse not to go. Soundtracks Live looks dumb.

The Futureheads' "decent days and nights" is probably the best single I've heard this year. The album isn't quite up to that standard, but still very good...

but how are they live?

Who's Franz Ferdinand? Are they any good?

Hey

I missed the Futureheads, and the Delays were pretty dull to be honest. As they came on, there was a wave of "Oooh, it's a GUY singer!" - which was funny.

FF were great - scrappier than they used to be, but having just as much fun. Pics and a video at http://blog.verbosecoma.com

ultragrrl was right about The Departure sounding like Blur & Joy Division....

i like the new Interpol album too...however this Futurehead business I found a little too bouncy for my tastes...

The Futureheads were pretty great and damn loud at a very packed rothko last night. It seemed like they played like 14 plus songs in only 40 minutes! They went on at like 1ish so Scott had no excuse not to go after soundtrack!

i thought the delays were awful. pretty boring and mostly annoying.

that keyboard/programmer fellow in the retarded hat was a complete knob.

the futureheads were really good, franz was good, but something was sort of off i thought....also, they had a hilarious/embarrassing moment when they couldn't get their giant "franz ferdinand" backdrop up straight. it was ridiculous.

Rothko was a disaster. Got there some time between 12 and 1. I had four advanced tix, but they were already over capacity and wouldn't let anyone in. They wouldn't even let the manager of the Futureheads in. He was at the door yelling in a think British accent - "I just want to see my band. I just want to see my band." The security told us to just wait and they would figure something out. I'm not sure what they were gonna figure out, but I started having 2nd thoughts anyway about cramming into an over capacity club.

A few people walked out and said "It's not worth it." I believed them, and left. I'll be contacting Rothko today for my refund...
(anyone else who didn't use their tickets should do the same)

BTW, I loved Franz Ferdinand at Roseland. I didn't think they were off at all. Maybe the last guy wasn't standing in a good spot. Roseland is weird like that. I thought the Delays were good too, and The Futureheads were ok.

you know i wasnt that impressed last night. FF was good but I dont get the same feeling as I do when i see the strokes (ok i said it, I like the strokes)...Take me out was awesome as well as michael but theres something missing that I cant put my finger on. Or maybe its just me.
ps the best way to see a show at roseland is to try to finagle your way to the stage on the right. I did, it makes all the difference and you get to see the crowd from the band's level.

Brooklynvegan, we had the same experience.

Went to Rothko around 11 and there was a line already. Fuck that. We left. Gawker says Franz's guitarist couldn't even get it? Sounds like a disaster.

I was going to go to the Futureheads show, I work for WBR but I was doublebooked and ended up at the Regina Spektor show. Too bad you didn't come! I think you would have loved it. Check her out, eh?

rothko was such a fucking mess. i was on the futureheads list and i had to plead with the bouncer to let even their manager in. i was like, "he manages the fucking band thats playing!"

all of the franz guys got in alright. the guitarist included. it was a fun time once the crowd thinned out a bit.

man, now I feel bad for only seeing a little bit of the Delays, although what I saw was not that impressive.

Loved Franz last night though. Last show I was at Roseland was Interpol -- great show but this was more rolicking fun and rock and less moody.

I saw FF here in Philly last night and they rocked my socks off. I agree, The Delays' keyboard stuff was just annoying, especially given how loud it was. Their keyboard/programmer person was wearing a silly hat at this show too. Though the singer had a nice voice, at least i thought so, hard to tell since he was kind of drowned out.

i thought the futureheads were great- very tight, fun songs. i heard the record and wasn't swayed but they totally won me over. very excellent. and rothko was fine. i got there at midnight, waited maybe twenty minutes and got in. they were very nice there. it was crowded inside- you know, like at a rock show? come on, what did you expect, a neighborhood bar feel?

I had similar troubles at the Rothko night, I got there around 12:30. I guess there was some miscommunication between the security guards because the one by the door wouldn't let anyone in - but when someone talked to the other bouncer, he said "only people with tickets are allowed in". We explained that we had willcall tickets, and the bouncer had to go to the security guard and convince him to let us in. The security guard was really stubborn about not letting people in and had to be convinced, and I have no idea why. I only waited about 5 minutes, though, and it wasn't that crazy inside. Futureheads were crazy excellent.
