"I Used To Rule The World" Speaking of... Here's Johnny Rotten on Coldplay: "I pity the poor bastards who have to watch them. They are utterly humourless. I met them a few years ago, said hello and realised they were just men in anoraks. They looked like a gang of little poncey masturbators. There is no fun, they don't offer joy. Their music has a couple of quite nice tones here and there but it's a box of tosh sold to slightly inadequate, half-baked people." That's one way to get press for a new Sex Pistols album.

Ripping on Coldplay is not very original. Thinking that Coldplay might offer something anything "crazy" or "fun" just lets us know how out of touch Johnny Rotten is. But I guess I didn't know that their was a new sex pistols until I read this. I still don't care, but whatevs.

People who feel the need to severely chastise Coldplay are insecure and laughably image-conscious. Which is the ultimate irony in all this - those suggesting that Coldplay is music for the weak-willed masses are in fact the biggest sheep of all.

now that the backlash against the backlash has begun Coldplay will recover their creed and cosmic balance will be restored.

Come on. Jhonny just said what everyone already knows but noone else is brave enough to say. Noone is chastising them. They have two good songs at best and everything else is just more of the same. A couple of years ago I say them at Cochella and was bored to tears. I walked away and happened upon Cafe Tacuva. Now ther's a band. They were a blast.
Maybe it's the generation gap or something. The Sex Pistols spoke to my generation about rebelion and nonconformism. It was a celebration of youth. Coldplay speaks to this generation and tells you to sit in your room and moap about love. No wonder they didn't get Jhonny.

Hey Johnny Rotten,

No one gives a shit what you think, you fucking asshole.
You only made one album.
Your opinion doesn't matter.

Thanks,
Sid Vicious

every single track on PIL's 'Metal Box' is better than every Coldplay song combined.

Mr. Rotten -- when he's right, he's right.

Coldplay is not a band for the ages, come on everybody.

seeing how Johnny Rotten hasn't done anything since the late 70's, when he released 1 good album, I take his opinion on a band that is in a genre and energy level that is the polar opposite of the sex pistols, with a grain of salt. But then again, if Johnny Rotten did like Coldplay, it would completely ruin his image, so of course he is going to bad mouth them. I dont really see the story here. just more coldplay bashing to throw on the never ending pile of people who love to mock them.

The fact is, if you are a "serious" music fan, you like music that isnt in the mainstream. Coldplay have become the biggest mainstream rock band around right now, and they sing light love songs so its not cool to like them. Green Day became mainstream and they got trashed. Weezer became mainstream and got trashed. Only thing saving the Foo Fighters is the fact that Dave Grohl is possible one of the coolest and most respected guys in music.

You know how I know you're gay? You care about Sex Pistols' new album.

At least Chris Martin still has the guts to swears on stage.

Brian, please don't embarrass yourself. Immediately go home and buy Metal Box on your way.

Slagging off other bands, especially Coldplay - an easy target, may be a little lame. But JR is spot on...and he's funny. Get a sense of humor (as well as Metal Box).
