Morrissey On Britney

MORRISSEY: Music lovers are absolutely sick to death of the way it's manipulated and the way people who have nothing to offer are pushed forward.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Like who? Are you thinking of stuff like American Idol?
MORRISSEY: Idol is an easy target as [the contestants] are really just very simple children who are manipulated by truly awful grown-up people. But I certainly think B. Spears is ... the devil. The way she projects herself and the fact that she is so obviously vaucous. I think it's such a shame that she became so influential to very small children. Most of the faces I see on the covers of American music magazines are just dreadful -- people with nothing to offer the world at all.

Vacuous? My Britney?

Finally. Some Britney info on the site that lays it out clean and sober.

I can't even get started on how I agree, I'll go all day.

the mozzer's idealism is somewhat misguided. britney's about as deep as a puddle, but her "artistic merit" (or lack thereof) should nothing to do with her relevancy. sure, there's millions of songwriters and performers more deserving of the media's attention - but how many of them have come up recently with a piece of POP MUSIC as compelling as "toxic"?

I am not sure Britney had much to do with Toxic. Doesn't she just sing and perform songs that other people write?

i love britney, but i love morrissey even more. and duh, he's obviously right on here.

but that doesn't mean i don't appreciate brit's pure, cheese-pop goodness (no matter who writes her songs)

She is a cute girl but truly does not have anything to offer these days other than her bare ass.

Morrissey is an artist with a capital A. Why is he even discussing the likes of Britney and what she represents? In the Smiths heyday people were sick of the way entertainers who had nothing to say were pushed forward too. The Smiths, like a lot of underground bands from the 1980's, didn't really get popular until well after their records were released and even then, never as popular as Britney. Maybe he's jealous of her.

Man I hate snobs.. I am so deep and your not! na na na na na!!! Self righteous assholes. Personally I don't care to listen to Morrissey's pathetic whinning. I would rather dance my ass off to a good Britney remix any day than listen to that dork whine and feel sorry for himself. He is just bitter.
