Brandon's got beef with fellow NME cover boys (and HFStival act) the Bravery. Via MTV News:
"Look at a band like the Bravery. They're signed because we're a band," Flowers said. "I've heard rumors about [members of] that band being in a different kind of band, and how do you defend that? If you say, 'My heart really belongs to what I'm doing now,' but you used to be in a ska band. the Bravery is Ashlee to the Killers' Jessica, they're the same band through and through. I'm surprised not everyone's "seen through" the Killers' overdone crap; they couldn't have been 7 years old in 1981 and there's no reason to regurgitate all this stuff from that time period. Good lord people...Flowers' statement is exactly true. Look at the Killer's fanbase...it's certainly a demographic dominated by preteens and young teenagers. Said preteens and young teenagers have never heard music from new order or the like. It's all new to them. Look at the bravery's fanbase, a few more pretentious music snobs than the killers' but all in all the same keyboard-loving teenagers. I enjoy a few bravery tunes, but they are just trying to nose into what is probably the biggest music market out there right now. They certainly dont deserve the title 'next biggest thing'. I will say that I find the Killers album to be good. I don't think it's re-inventing the wheel, and if Interpol didn't have any success, the Killers would still be playing in their Las Vegas basements. oh brandon flowers, has your head gotten bigger than your fanbase? i <3<3 the killers, i think their fun and catchy, but obviously no kind of revolutionary rock, and yes the same goes for the bravery, they are catchy and fun, nothing too serious, BUT one large difference that tells me to lean toward bravery a smidge more:
ive seen both in concert and the bravery were 20x better than the killers concert wise, you could tell they wanted to be on stage, it was an overall good show with good energy. the killers show lacked energy, any kind of movement and brandon looked like he did not want to be up there. the curly haired killer was a nice guy, but im not sure about the rest, and the bravery key boardist was pretty nice as well, so yeah musically could be a catchyfest toss up but concert wise, no contest for me.
plus if ur gonna start "pointing fingers at who stole what" the line would never end until you got to elvis who in turn "stole" music from the people around him ...ect.. you could still probably go on from their, soo in conclusion someone needs to kick that pink suit wearing cutie, brandon flowers in the arse.

Brandon at least has charisma, whether he is fake or not or whatever immature/arrogant comments he makes- and thats hard to come by nowadays. I have fallen for Brandon Flowers harder than any other celebrity, along with many of the band's loyal fans. This guy has so much talent in him, it's unbelievable. He even has the guts to wear lip gloss and eye liner (and look gorgeous with it. Give him a break he grew up with 4 sisters!) and take all the shat thrown out by all of you people, and still keep going to give us the privelage of hearing his music. It's unfortunate that Mr. Flowers feels threatened by the edition of this band to his label, perhaps feeling like there is a small pie to be shared. And its not surprising that he doesn't like their music(even though I think secretly he might) when a musician hears another artist producing a similar sound to his own they usually start to pick it apart, comparing it to their own, and typically dismiss it. But its all "jealousy" ( sung to the tune of Mr. Brightside) . Brandon is young,and if I became famous when I was as young, I would probably be a self centered insufferable ass too. Its ok to think a band sucks when you are famous, but keep that shit to yourself or you'll come across as an asshole. Isn't THAT obvious?
Now as far as "seeing through originality"as Brandon described the Bravery .Here is a small rundown of where The killers got a couple of their ideas for their songs. And let me just say that no one is "original", nor does that matter, are bluesman original? well you get the point.

Okay, let me start this off very bluntly. The Bravery are fuckin posers. Honestly, I have much more respect for The Killers than I would the bravery. Brandon Flowers can ACTUALLY SING! I dunno, when I first heard the Killers disk I was impressed. The vocals were sexy, the synths catchy, and the lyrics were obscure, dense and oddly poetic.
I was new in the style of music though, having previously been stuck in a 70s classic rock, folk, and pop phase. (the beatles, todd rundgren, joni mitchell, ledzep, elo) And I sort of ventured into an electronica phase, and then got really into Bjork and some accoustic stuff. but honestly who isn't been in an accoustic phase?
Sorry weird side branch. But anyway, after listening to Hot Fuss, I was introduced to that style of music, British new wave, synth-ridden, new order inspired junk.
The Killers are really a lot more accessible than, say, the Strokes or even Interpol. (at least thats my opinion) Their music is varied, no two songs on the album is really alike. I mean, as much as I love the White Stripes, they have about 3 different styles used over and over again. Same with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

(A band I've never heard of, and will probably never hear of again.) There's some kind of reference to someone's mother, usually followed by the alleged "mother" posting that the only people with semi-interesting comments were unwanted at birth and so on.

THey all have great attitudes towards life and are very hapy about where they are right now. The Killers are the best effing band ever.They are my favourite and the bravery are good...but no where near Ronnie,Mark,Dave and Brandon. Therefore anyone against The Killers should really listen to what they've got. They are lyrical geniuses and I respect their every decision.

THey all have great attitudes towards life and are very hapy about where they are right now. The Killers are the best effing band ever.They are my favourite and the bravery are good...but no where near Ronnie,Mark,Dave and Brandon. Therefore anyone against The Killers should really listen to what they've got. They are lyrical geniuses and I respect their every decision.
The Killers have all the right to have a scrap against the bravery.The bravery has said very cruel things about Brandon and Mark and i'm sure the rest of the band.

I think that it was Brandon's fault in saying anything negative in the first place. Both bands produce amazing music and have converted what used to be a very boring, mundane music (I'm talking about the period just before the flourish of retro/indie/alternative punk bands) period into absolute life. The score has been settled now. Yes, to many women (and possibly guys), you may find the band members attractive, but that's not what music is about. I couldn't care less what they look like. If they produce good music, I'm gonna listen to it. And that's how it should be. All bands should respect the music of other great bands, whether they don't like them or not. If the music attracts an audience, it's got to be half-decent to certain people.

Personally I have a very strong position on the whole NEW WAVE/POST ROCK MOVEMENT. After the Strokes, The White Stripes and The Hives started it, many great bands were able to emerge. All starting with (the first that comes to mind) Stellastarr*. Now their album is okay, like out of 5 stars its about 3. Then the next best one was Franz Ferdinand. Personally i think their debut is a little over-hyped. Yeah it's good, but it is not consistent at all. The beginning rocks, the middle sucks and then the end is okay. Out of five, 3 1/2. Then came the Killers. Now once again the album is not consistent but it is very good. The beginning is excellent, the middle is okay and the end of Hot Fuss is simply horrible. But for a debut it is pretty good, i'd say four out of five. Then came The Futureheads which no one seems to be mentioning at all in the New Wave movement. They had one of the best debuts of 2004 by far. Combining punk with New Wave, the Futureheads found an original sound and weren't afraid to admit their infuences. Out of 5, 4 1/2. And now we have the Bravery. Now i must admit, when i heard An Honest Mistake i thought after hearing the singles from The Killers and Franz Ferdinand, "Oh god, this is gonna be like the only good song on the album". But was i ever wrong! The Bravery's debut is by far the best of the New Wave movement. When you listen to it you can tell Endicott has an ear for perfection because the album is exactly that. The order of the song playlist is perfect, the album is ridiculously consistent, and it is simply amazing. Now as for the whole feud between the Killers and the Bravery. Personally i think for Flowers to even pretend that someone is "following" them is ridiculous. I love the Killers but only because they remind me of earlier greats like Duran Duran. There is nothing patricularly original about their sound. They didn't "open any doors" for other bands as he seems to think. And as for Endicott not being a fan of them, so what!? I mean i doubt the Beatles like a lot of bands but they were still loved! So to Flowers i say, "Please. We love both you and the Bravery so chill!"

I think people need to leave their dislike aside and give credit where credit is due. The Killers, being my personal favourite band of all time, have done very well for themselves, and they should be proud of what they've achieved. I know several people who aren't into them at all and don't like the stuff they have released, however they have enough decency to show respect for what they have done. The same goes for the Bravery I guess. I have their album as well and while I found it to be somewhat of a let down, I still think they are doing very well for themselves, image taken from others or otherwise. This sort of thing does not do anything for true music fans except make us all look like the really sad people who spend their every waking moment dissing bands.

I liked The Killers very much a year or so ago, before they got their stylist and a record label that is pushing a VERY contrived "image" to death. A fun down to earth band is now a fake product. The Killers did come first, but you have to remember that the new wave-throwback inspired music they play comes straight from 80's artists like Duran Duran, Morrisey, The Smiths, New Order, and Depeche Mode. So pretty much what Brandon says applies to himself too. The Killers DID play a role in hightening the success in other synth bands like The Bravery and Elkland, because they were one of the first to make an impression. They re-gained respect for new wave, and because of that, other bands who might have formed just as early, got a chance to emerge into the mainstream. The Killers do not "suck" and neither does The Bravery. They are not playing "off" each other, just belong to the same music genre. The catfight was created for publicity. Everyone should just stop. Both bands are wonderful, and unique in their own respect. The Killers being more dark and relaxed, The Bravery screaming "PARTY!" Now shut up, and go try out Elkland. They define retro and sound like they actually came in a time machine outta 84'.

I like the Killers. I like the Bravery. I like the Killers more than the Bravery, but that's not the point I'm trying to make. I do think it was messed up of Brandon to say what he thinks THAT WAY. I could care less what they say to eachother, but it did surprise me a little that a shy kid from Vegas (i live in Vegas) would suddenly jump on Sam like that. Sam only responded because he knew if he didn't then people would say he was afraid of Brandon, which couldn't be less true. Neither of them are very intimidating. (I would still pay to watch them mud-wrestle though) The Killers and The bravery, are both new-wave revitalists... you can deny it all you like but it's true. The Killers are more, indie new wave, and the bravery is more of a tachno/synth new wave. I have both albums, I've listened to them all the way through I think the Killers are better, but that doesn't mean the bravery is bad. wow, i 'm so glad to see people on here know the truth about the record industry and can see right through it. just about anyone who has seen (or rather endured) and episode of american idol knows what it takes for a Record Executive to put his stake (BIG marketing dollars) on a band. A GAP within the market. Bands like the killers are nothing less than something formulated by a room full of island record execs. what i don't understand is how i went to a killers concert last night because a friend had an extra ticket and a. i felt like i was at a high school assembly b. people were trying to dance to it c. the show was the exact length of thier one and only album d. (this truly astounds me) i saw some crowd surfing e.these guys are from vegas with british accents? gimme a break.... My conclusion .... lame parents equal lame kids, you feed people some lame music on the radio and on mtv and people will eventually like it and try to dance to it. there are bands out there that dress themselves and are creative and deserving of the fame and glory that they recieve. but the killers are it.
