Jane's Contradiction: Dave Navarro Parries In Response To Perry

NME reports that nipple-ringed guitar hero Dave Navarro has taken up his defense in response to Perry Farrell's inconsistent statements about the cause of Jane's cessation. The group parted ways in '91 and properly reformed to release Strays in '03 ... and that was pretty forgettable. Since then, Perry's cast blame on Dave's MTV show Rock Star for the band's subsequent dissolution, saying, "My band broke up basically over reality TV, and I just couldn't believe it," -- which the guitarist has taken to the Navarro blog to debunk:

The timeline just doesn't make sense. I didn't even get a call about the idea of Rock Star until The Panic Channel was recording demos with Brian Virtue. Wait. What happened to this quote? "Music that was once relevant and graceful had become clumsy as a circus seal tooting his horns… Jane doesn't strip for anyone but me. I brought Jane's Addiction to life, it is only fitting that I am the one to bury her." Or this one?

"I haven't spoken to them (guitarist Dave Navarro and drummer Stephen Perkins) since they broke the band up. (They) never called me. They went to Rolling Stone to (talk) about their new project (The Panic Channel). I read about it online." OK. So which is it? Rock Star? He broke it up? We did? Either way it was four years ago so I think it's about time to let it go. Why respond to this now? Well, I let it alone for a few days but it just keeps getting picked up by different news sources everyday. Damn! Doesn't anyone write their own stories anymore?
Sad to see what's become of the men behind classics like Nothing's Shocking and Ritual; Perry with his Jim Morrisson collaborations and Dave with his indulgent celebreality indiscretions. As for the timeline of Jane's demise, maybe Perry meant 'Til Death Do Us Part: Carmen & Dave? Although that had nothing to do with music ... it was just incredibly lame. Thankfully Perry has Satellite Party to restore balance to the post-Jane's continuum.

Whatver the timeline: Navarro's a dildo. It hurts me to say that, because he was the shredder on two of my most formulative albums ever, but there it is: he's a joke. Satellite Party may not be as revolutionary as Perry thinks (what the hey, he's almost 50), but it's funny to me that Nuno can sound pretty much just as good as Dave, but Dave's never going to work w/ a vocalist as awesome as Perry. Never.

"Sad to see what's become of the men behind classics like Nothing's Shocking and Ritual" What about Eric Avery?! His new stuff is amazing. Once again quality gets overlooked for pseudo celebrity drama.

I worked as a local crew guy when they were rehearsing in LA for their last tour together. Dave and Carmen's Mtv 'reality' marriage show had multiple cameras brought into the Janes rehearsal to tape them playing. Perry freaked out not knowing about it ahead of time and stood with his back to the cameras for the rehearsal.
It was really uncomfortable. I guarantee this is what he meant and it is the right time period too.

Well, at least one new Eric Avery song can be heard here: http://members.cox.net/pbr/, click on the "dangerbird player" thing in the upper right. Tough to give a quick opinion from my laptop speakers, though.

As evidenced on Strays, Eric Avery was the thing that made Jane's great, without him they were just an average rock band.

It was indeed the "Carmen & Dave" show on MTV that Perry was citing, not "Rock Star Superlamer".

I remember seeing bits of the Carmen & Dave show where they were showing Jane's making the music video. Watching Elektra do her rock-husband worship thing conjured up two words: Yoko Ono.

And all I kept thinking was: This is the kind of stuff that makes Perry's skin crawl (ie - anything to do with licking MTV's balls - 'cuz MTV will always still piss on you after you lick...)

Say what you want about anything post-Jane's, but
go back and listen to the never-heard 2nd Porno
For Pyros CD, "Good God's Urge"...there's some
seriously amazing tunes on that record. Dare I say, ahead of its time when it came out?
