Send Him Back To The Stone Age

The latest edition in the public feud between former Queens Of The Stone Age bassist Nick Oliveri and Josh Homme broke out this morning, when Nick told Gigwise that Josh "sold himself short, thinking he is 'The Guy,' he should just be the Josh Homme band." He goes on to slam QOTSA's latest release, saying Josh "dropped the ball" by compressing the guitars beyond the state of recognition.

But what the article doesn't state is that Homme dismissed Oliveri after "independently" confirming that Oliveri "had been physically abusive to his girlfriend." Here's what Josh told Billboard in July:

A couple years ago, I spoke to Nick about a rumor I heard. I said, 'If I ever find out that this is true, I can't know you, man.' Because music and my life are the same thing, there's no rules until something massive happens. [Nick] was over here [in England] with [QOTSA vocalist Mark] Lanegan and something happened again, and he almost didn't make it out of the country. That's not music anymore.
We're don't know what constitutes "independent" confirmation. But if there's any veracity to Josh's claim, then in this war of words, Nick, you lose.

as much as it would suck if that was true (about nick) the are half as good as as they used to without him.

they lost what edge they had when he left.

that said they are still a great band. going to see them at the Detour festival this weekend in fact. too bad Beck has to play also

It's probably not a good idea to talk shit about a 6'5 man with a penchant for liberally dispensing well-deserved beatdowns.

Besidethesea, you should be ashamed for standing up for the Scientologist, Hollywood vanity of Beck. When was the last time he didn't make another Odelay or another Mutations? Beck's creativity is drained.

Josh was an all-state tight end in high school and Nick was the kid that secretly wanted to be him.

Isn't QOTSA's new bassist Jesse from DFA1979/ MSTRKRFT?

If Jono's comment is true I might actually start listening to QOTSA...

Jesse confirmed last month that he won't be able to make it into the studio to record on the new Queens' album due to MSTRKRFT committments.

Jefferson Keeler hasn't been confirmed as the band's new bassist. Not to say that I wouldn't find him an interesting addition.
