White Stripes Coming To The Daily Show

Jack and Meg White will give the Comedy Central program's first ever musical performance on 12/1.

"We've never had a musical performance on the show before - not because we haven't wanted one - but because we were holding out for a reunited Spandau Ballet. This will have to suffice," Jon says in the press release.

Can't wait to hear what Meg has to say about Judith Miller.

is this going to become a regular part of the show?

Yeah, Kevin, they should have booked your band instead. . . wow, that would have rocked so hard.

Wait, didn't They Might Be Giants perform on the show once before? I seem to recall them using one of those old-timey wax cyliders to record it. Was I high? Ok, yes, I was, but still, does anyone else remember this?

This is total bullshit.. Tenacious D performed on the show a few years ago RIGHT after their CD came out.. This is a sham

You are not imagining things. I recall TMBG live on the show as well. When Jon Stewart took over, TMBG re-recorded the Bob Mould theme and also play the intro/outro commercial music. The real question is, does anyone remember Bill Murray providing lyrics to the theme that went "I've got to watch it; it's the Daily Show."

Meg on Judith Miller? What if they talk about politics? Next thing you know they'll be rockin' the round table with Bill Maher. This is a great idea! The Daily Show could use some variety.

just be accurate.. I guess that's all I'm saying.. They call bullshit all the time.. they shouldn't try and get some mileage out of this by lying about it

Yeah, Big Baby Jesus is right! Tenacious D. I remember that. I think they played "Rock Your Socks Off." How dare they dis the D!

Well... The White Stripes are my favorite band going. So, even though they won't be the first band to rock The Daily Show, I'm still excited to see Jack & Meg on there. woot!

i don't know if they did or didn't but here's a thought.... maybe tenacious d and TMBG both played the daily show.... with craig kilborn. so technically, the white stripes will be the first band to play on the daily show.... with jon stewart. just a thought. could be wrong tho. won't spend the extra 5 minutes googling to back this statement up tho.

hey first post way up to there....
can't say I am a huge White Stripes fan but how can anyone in their right mind call a band that consists of two people who crank out music that sounds better than a lot of new bands (say like the Strokes that has five members) boring? anyone in their right mind would also admit that Jack White is extremely talented...

I think this is going to be great. I can't wait to see who else they might ask to be on. The Daily Show could definitely stand to be a little more musical...

personally mr. first post I'd have to agree. sorry mr. later post. the strokes are way more fun than the white stripes regurgitated southern heartland rock. i find them utterly tedious

I really hope this isn't going to happen regularly. I'd rather have more Daily Show. This is going to eat up 5 minutes of an already short show. We already have SNL, MadTV, and myriad other late night programs to showcase shitty bands. I'd be all for it if they made The Daily Show an hour long, but I think it goes by too quickly as it is. This reeks of laziness.

TMBG did play on the Daily Show (with Jon Stewart). It was a special of some kind. Perhaps this is why it didn't count.

No way.. The D played on the show with Jon Stewart and it wasn't a special.. They were the first musical guest..

The Daily Show never seems to have enough time for their all their guests & segments. Adding a "band-of-the-(INSERT TIME SEGMENT HERE)" segment is redundant for their viewers. Bottom line: I don't watch the daily show for music. I watch it for the satire, guest culture & references to obscure trivia.

I wonder which of the producers won/lost this bet...

Oh, yeah. Kevin's band RAWKS!

Listen the group does business, and Jon takes what he can, hes a business man, what can you expect, thats what has music has become, its all business.
