Will Death Cab Get Their Float On?

From Entertainment Weekly's 2005 Forecast...

Death Cab For Cutie
These indie-rock favorites have signed a sweet deal with Atlantic, but don't fret, Seth Cohen: They're no going all jiggy on you. "We don't have any plans to remix with the Neptunes just to get a single on the radio," jokes frontman Ben Gibbard. Still, the major-label cash isn't going to waste. The Seattle quartet is relocating to a rural Massachusetts studio this spring to record the follow-up to 2003's elegant Transatlanticism. "If we want to call in the London Philharmonic," says Gibbard, "now we can." Though Gibbard isn't done writing, he says fans can expect a record that builds on Transatlanticism's more expansive tracks. "My favorite moments are the ones that kind of move away from the verse-chorus-verse-bridge thing," he says. "But I still want to write pop songs. If we have a song that resonates like [Modest Mouse's] 'Float On' did, that would be great. We'd pat ourselves on the back for that."
In the meantime, Ben fans should keep an eye out for the new Postal Service single We Will Become Silhouettes. It includes the b-side "Be Still My Heart" and two remixes: Matthew Dear's take on the title track and a Styrofoam version of "Nothing Better." A video for "We Will Become Silhouettes" directed by Jared Hess (Napolean Dynamite) is coming soon.

Nick Harmer's hair always bugs me.

When your receding hairline is that bad, you really need to do the preemptive buzz...

I like DCFC, but The Postal Service just plain rocks harder! Ben and Jimmy make for an awesome team, and I'm hoping that DCFC (yeah, sure, it's been around longer) doesn't keep Gibbard's little "side project" from cutting another record. Am I alone out here?

God help a band that wants their own "Float On." That song ruined Modest Mouse for me.

Just as Guster decided that they no longer want to be a scummy college stoner jam band, Death Cab have decided that they no longer want to be a spineless lackluster emo band. They stood out like a sore emo thumb at coachella and were completely out of place on the daniel johnston tribute record. Despite their blatant attempts to prove their credibility and fall in with a respectable scene, I will never see them as anything other then melodramatic teenage girl fodder.

death cab is the lamest/least interesting/overrated band of our time.

they also have the worst band name of all time.

I think it would be nice to hear Death Cab work with the Neptunes. Ben Gibbard doing vocals with Snoop Dogg for a "Drop It Like It's Hot" remix, maybe?

I will have to agree with Isaac. I absolutely love DCFC, but I like Postal Service better. I wasn't really a Modest Mouse fan. That kinda turned me off, but I'm hoping he was mocking pop songs.

(1) Nick's hair kicks ass and you guys should all be ashamed of yourselves for bashing one of the coolest nicest guys ever (and a totally rockin' bass player). (2) If you've seen Death Cab and The Postal Service live you'd know that Death Cab rocks harder. (3) Death Cab is not lame or emo, you don't know what you're talking about. (4) Modest Mouse rocks and if you don't like Float On then you're just a pretentious little indier-than-thou bastard that nobody wants as a fan anyway. go listen to some lame-ass hipster band like Le Tigre.

wow you couldn't come up with a more pretentious band than le tigre... they were kinda hip like six years ago. you are clearly out of touch and find your new favorite bands from spin magazine... death cab are emo... check out the scarves... putting your ideas in a list almost convinced me though. very concise.
