NME Thinks Klaxons Are Still MDMA-zing

For the #1 slot, at least, the New Music Express's album list was easy to call; you don't think they'd let the world start to think it was the Mercury Prize that got Klaxons in headlines, do you? No sir, this is the band that came complete with ecstatic slang and day-glo and a nifty new genre tag (and a penchant for rejecting all those things as NME journalistic sensationalism, as if such a thing existed). Oh and, right, they came complete with a pretty fine album, too. Also, remember UK law: Arctic Monkeys must be in the top 5. But it's not all Brit hype by the numbers cookie cuttery; check the savvy #5 for Les Savy Fav.

50 Beirut - The Flying Club Cup
49 Interpol - Our Love To Admire
48 The View - Hats Off To The Buskers
47 Enter Shikari - Take To The Skies
46 Kaiser Chiefs - Yours Truly Angry Mob
45 !!! - Myth Takes
44 Gruff Ryhs - Candylion
43 Foo Fighters - Echoes, Silence Patience and Grace
42 Patrick Wolf - The Magic Position
41 Menomena - Friend and Foe
40 EL-P - I'll Sleep When I'm Dead
39 Jeffery Lewis - 12 Crass Songs
38 Justice -
37 Jamie T - Panic Prevention
36 Holy Fuck - Holy Fuck
35 Super Furry Animals - Hey Venus!
34 New Young Pony Club - Fantastic Playroom
33 Simian Mobile Disco - Attack Decay Sustain Release
32 Grinderman - Grinderman
31 The Pigeon Detectives - Wait For Me
30 QOTSA - Era Vulgaris
29 Lethal Bizzle - Back To Bizznizz
28 Bright Eyes - Cassadaga
27 The Horrors - Strange House
26 Kate Nash - Made of Bricks

25 The Hold Steady - Boys and Girls In America
24 The Maccabees - Colour It In
23 Maps - We Can Create
22 Black Lips - Good Bad Not Evil
21 The Enemy - We'll Live and Die In These Towns
20 Bloc Party - A Weekend In The City
19 Richard Hawley - Lady's Bridge
18 The Good, The Bad & The Queen - The Good, The Bad & The Queen
17 Future of The Left - Curses
16 The Coral - Roots and Echoes
15 The White Stripes - Icky Thump
14 Babyshambles - Shotter's Nation
13 PJ Harvey - White Chalk
12 The Shins - Wincing The Night Away
11 LCD Soundsytem - Sound Of Silver
10 Battles - Mirrored
09 The Cribs - Man's Needs, Women's Needs, Whatever
08 Biffy Clyro - Puzzle
07 M.I.A. - Kala
06 Kings of Leon - Because Of The Times
05 Les Savy Fav - Let's Stay Friends
04 Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
03 Radiohead - In Rainbows
02 Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare
01 Klaxons - Myths of The Near Future
We'd remind you that the Hold Steady's LP came out this year across the Atlantic, but we do that every time and it doesn't seem to matter. So ... can you believe that Boys And Girls... is on this list? This may be the first we're seeing of Patrick Wolf on a year-ender -- quite a fall from grace after all that Magic Position commotion -- and it's definitely the first time we've seen the dance token flipped to Simian's side of things. Don't worry Justice, Gummy loves you (or at least, your magic tees).

Hahaha. I could have guessed it. The only one I was wrong on was I thought they'd give In Rainbows #1 and The Klaxons #3. But I got the top 20 down right otherwise.

I still have no idea why people like Biffy Clyro. Worst band. Worst name. Worst songs. Ugh.

Boys And Girls in Amercica came out November of 2006 in the UK.. October of 2006 in the US.

The special edition was just released in the UK. maybe they got confused.

Can someone explain why everyone is so against In Rainbows being #1? Seems like no one wants it at #1 because everyone expects it to be #1. Is that it?

Major cause for concern... Pigeon Detectives are absolute dogshit.

okay klaxons being at #1 is not even close to as embarassing as putting Arctic Monkeys at #2???

I'm not even a real music snob but that seems foolish to me...and how can you think the cribs are in top 10?

This list makes all other lists look amazingly insightful

I can't take any list that doesn't include FF Widow City seriously.

Am I the only one not impressed with Icky Thump??

Are they being serious about putting Enter Shikari and The Horrors on the list? Because those two fucking blow dicks hard.

I never expected anyone to put Klaxons at the top of their list, but it's still better than putting Arcade Fire/LCD Soundsystem at the top.

No Stereophonics? Figured they'd be all over that. Love me some Kelly Jones, but not their best. Ok, far from it... I'll 2nd kudos for Richard Hawley and show some love for Arctic Monkeys not only because FWN is great, but because they need all they can get around here.

NME hate Stereophonics most of the time (unfortunately) so they had no shot.

Enter Shikari?! Gross!

wrong.

its not an opinion thats a fact. its wrong. i have never in my life seen such a biased list in my life. if arctic monkeys or klaxons smeared shit on a cd nme would still die for it. (nothing against the monkeys, they are still ok in good in my mind)

no spoon?! its just wrong. and they put klaxons above the hold steady? please.

"and they put klaxons above the hold steady? please."

Klaxons do deserve to be above The Hold Steady on any "Best Album of..." list. It's not an opinion (nor an option), it's a fact.
