Filter Finds In Rainbows Best Of '07

And just like that, Radiohead went from no #1s to two of 'em. Earlier today MOJO found gold in Rainbows, and now Filter does too. Drink up, boys! But so far we've been giving our British brethren some leeway because not all countries have similar release dates. Filter, we're looking for your excuse. In just ten strokes you've managed to outline the most transparently flailing, 'something for everyone' list yet. There's the good (Radiohead, AC, AF), the bland (just 'cause Harcourt said Great Northern's Top 10 doesn't make it so), and The Good, The Bad & The Queen (are you fucking kidding me). How can TGTB&TQ be there ahead of ... ugh forget it.

10 Andrew Bird - Armchair Apocrypha
09 Great Northern - Trading Twilight For Daylight
08 The National - Boxer
07 LCD Soundsystem - Sound Of Silver
06 Elvis Perkins - Ash Wednesday
05 Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam
04 The Good, The Bad & The Queen - The Good, The Bad & The Queen
03 Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
02 Band Of Horses - Cease To Begin
01 Radiohead - In Rainbows
And out of curiosity, how did Filter even manage to rank their top albums? Doesn't everything just get an 87%?

Albarn could queef into a tin can and reverb the shit out of it in ProTools and people would bend over backwards to declare him the new Wagner.

TGTBTQ is boring as fuck.
Yeah I said it.
Even live. Bored the holy hell out of us at Coachella too.

First one I've seen place Animal Collective this high. Otherwise, no surprises.

Band of Horses have once again been corralled by those gothic prog-rockers from across the pond. This is an insult to South Carolina's finest jam band and, dare I say it, the greatest band since the invention of the blog.

I agree TGTBTQ is boring as all hell, even more insulting ,they barely edged out Strawberry Jam. I can't believe Strawberry Jam has been so low on so many other lists. It's at least as good as In Rainbows.

other than tgtb&tq, great northern, and lcd soundsystem, this is probably the best list so far.

it's very colorful with the rainbows, neon, silver and lcd. but don't be down on the great northern just because blandcourt digs 'em. when are we seeing stereogum's top 10 btw?

Funny how the blog who features Kellie Pickler footage is pulling a high-and-mighty on an actually decent top 10 list. Very funny.

Honestly, Radiohead deserved it. I'm suprised there's no Wilco on there though.

What the fuck is wrong with the Good, the Bad, and the Queen? They may be a bit boring, and would've never gotten any attention if they weren't Damon Albarn's supergroup. But they have a good sound (England meets West Africa) and have Tony Allen.
It's not as pathetic as the Raconteurs "supergroup" at least.

The Good, The Bad, & The Queen is so much better than Strawberry Jam, it's not even funny. Do not confuse contrived uniqueness with class. Seriously, is this any different than others?

i doubt anyone heard of the greenhornes or brendan benson before they heard of the raconteurs.

I am beginning to think that british mags just insert albums in there from safe, acclaimed bands (who have made great albums before but not necessarily this time) without giving much thought just as an obligatory gesture.

I really liked TGTB&TQ album when it cam out but it kind of lost me. I don't think i have listened to it in months. But Damon Albarn is a genius, and if he queefed in a can i think everyone would be impressed because, well not to get into the technical stuff here, but i don't think he can do that one alone.

why does stereogum hate TGTB&TQ?
excellent album finally getting the respect it deserves

looking back at last year's gummys, this blog shouldn't be the one throwing stones

am i the only one who thinks radiohead released their album then JUST so they could be on every indie jerk's end of the year "best of" list?

augh! i hate these lists! i don't care who you like in what order!

The Good, The Bad and The Queen lyric 'Drink all day/cause the country's at war' must have been what won over the editors at Filter. You would have to be drunk to take that list seriously, other than the top spot, which is obvious anyway.

Thank God for good sense - The Good, The Bad, and The Queen, best album of the year, no question. You lot don't know what you're talking about, for fuck's sake.

yeah, this is actually the best list i've seen so far. anyone that thinks Great Northern is bland, isn't paying any attention. They are amazing, even better in person, and I'm glad to see someone actually giving them some love.

Honestly worst list I have seen. Radiohead and Arcade Fire need to be off everybody's list, it was way to over hyped and not worth it at all, plenty of other stuff worth your time. I feel bad for the people that actually support this list as some type of year end wrap up and think it actually covers the spectrum of good music.

Potentially great list ruined by the #2-3 spots. TGTB&TQ boring? Try Band of Horses.

Damon Albarn and Good the Bad and the Queen can take Panda Gay and his bunch of knobtwiddling wannabe weirdos any day. Strawberry Jam is such a load of bullshit music, at least Good, the Bad and the Queen are genuine. Definitely pissed about the Band of Horses placement, however. Ben Birdwell can blow me.

funny you think this list is so wretched when these bands are all over your bloggers' lists too, a transparent conspiracy to stoke debate on the 'gum perhaps?
