Youth On Girls

Did you remember to DVR last night's finale of Gilmore Girls ... featuring Sonic Youth, Joe Pernice, Yo La Tengo, Sparks, Mary Lynn Rajskub, and Sam Phillips?

Pitchfork dug up this cute photo of Coco Gordon Moore with Paris.

Thurston "and special guests" (Alexis Bledel?) play the Stone tonight at 8 & 10 ... but more importantly, also at the Stone:

Jim O'Rourke
Tuesday 5/16 @ 8 & 10 PM
Finally Stereogum gets Jim solo. Pray for Eureka. (Heads up via Dave.)

Dug up? More like went to Pitchfork's news page last night.

Does she have braces? If she does, I think that says a lot about Kim and Thurston.

No one ever mentions that Grant Lee Phillips was on the show, too - he was the reason everyone else showed up.

Just sayin'.

when I reached adolescence, I had only two of the four teeth in the front of the top of my mouth. for some reason I had only two incisors, the two front teeth. I never smiled, I was super self concious, etc. thanks to good braces and fake teeth, now I have a nice smile. there are many reasons to get braces, and they don't need to be expensive. you can get them at sears for fuck's sake.

I know I'm a loser, but...I watched the show, enjoyed all the musicians, butdon't know who they are (except for Chloe, naturally, and was that the teacher from Freaks & Geeks?). who was bouncing blond singer, singer with guy on keyboard, etc?
poor Lorelai, but she's obviously meant to be with Christopher, not Luke. go away, Logan - forever!!

i don't really know this show...i'd say the girl on the right looks more like kim and thur's child than the left side girl.

:F i never had braces and I wish i did...but back in the day it was a major expense. Oh well... i 'll just have an emo moment and sulk now

Sonic Youth can afford an orthodontist because they re-recorded an instrumental version of "Kool Thing" for H&SB Bank that aired during the primetime hours of the 2006 Oscar telecast. No one reported this.

also where is Jim O'Rourke actually playing genius?

$100 says no more than one Eureka song and most likely it'll all be instrumental improv.

Coco played bass with Kim and Thurston on the show... it was cute. She kind of had this look on her face like, "God, my parents are so lame." Which, that's hilarious cos her parents are Sonic effing Youth.
Joe Pernice was also featured for a bit, played an acoustic version of "Amazing Glow" from the last album.

anonymous, if that is your real name, what gives? musicians need to make money too. commercials help. perhaps no one reported it because it is not a big deal. or at all surprising.

i'm a regular gg watcher, so the actress that plays paris...liza weil.

as for all the troubadours, it was way cool.

(and grant lee-phillips isn't the only musical regular on the show. sebastian bach plays the guitarist in lane's band.)

Yeah, fido's a deluded, self-obsessed (but not sexee) jerk. But nobody has addressed the other part of fido's comment. Scott never claimed to have "dug up" the pic. He said in his post that Pitchfork dug it up. So lay off, jerk.

All I meant by the initial braces remark was that I think it's cool that Kim and Thurston are raising a kid with braces when they could have given her some kind of surgery to fix her teeth perfectly. It's needless to say that they aren't neglectful Britney and K-Fed celebrity parents who are going to fuck up their kid later on. I just think that it's cool to think of them as normal, American parents.

And another thing, I don't have any problems with my teeth. I have no cavities and I could still tear through a wall with them. So what does it matter if they're a little crooked? As long as they're healthy, I think that caring about what your teeth look like is pointless. But then again, I'm just not very self-conscious. Some people are and I get that. Some people think that a perfect smile is really important. I, however, do not. But there are lots of assholes with "honest smiles" in this world. That's all I'm saying.

By the way, David, Scott changed the "I" to "Pitchfork" some time after he read my first comment.

Fido, you do realize by not explaining your initial comment (not the mention the first follow-up), the negative vibe gave everybody the strong feeling that you were actually being very critical of the godfather and godmother of indie rock?

Fido, I interpreted your comments as complimentary toward Mr. and Mrs. Gordon-Moore. I, for one, see it as a good thing that they're sufficiently concerned with their daughter's well-being to invest in braces. Clearly, you do too.

Well, I'm sorry I didn't explain it the first time around, but I hardly thought that it could be interpreted as "Sonic Youth sold out when they got their daughter braces. Everything since EVOL is dead to me now."

Nah the "stupidest" comment thread was the one against picthfork's new year's list... jeez, and once again the writer of this site has made another woopie by saying "i" first and later replacing that with "pithcfork" without mentioning anything about it, sneaky bugger :)
i would really enjoy this site more again if they would lay off the stupid pitchfork debat, just co-exist and give props where they are due instead of trying to run off with the credits first and change it when someone points it out...
