ZOMG New Moon Soundtrack Leaked

thumbnail icon: ZOMG New Moon Soundtrack Leaked

While Death Cab and Annie Clark talk up their New Moon contributions, Thom Yorke has remained suspiciously mum. We can only assume he is a fan of vampires and of letting his music speak for itself. His "Hearing Damage" leaked this weekend, along with the rest of the OST, and as far as recent Thom solo recordings go (see "Horses"), it's entirely accessible, with a swoon-worthy chorus over pulsing synths: "Your speakers are blowing/ Your ears are wrecking/ Your ears are damaged/ You wish you felt better/ You can do no wrong in my eyes." Have a listen to that and more:

Thom Yorke - "Hearing Damage"

Bon Iver & St. Vincent - "Rosyln"

Grizzly Bear (Feat Victoria Legrand) - "Slow Life"

The Twilight Saga: New Moon soundtrack is out 10/20 via Atlantic.

Surprised at the jam quotient from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Killers, etc. Nice little soundtrack.

Really great stuff. But I'll admit I'm still baffled as to why so many great artists made new material for the Twilight saga, of all things. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. I could just think of better movies to contribute songs to.

I'd imagine it has something to do with wanting to make a career out of this whole music thing through the cash money from the soundtrack as well as increased exposure. You'd have to be pretty masochistic to turn this down.

In an early report I read about the Thom Yorke song, its title was mistakenly spelled "Herring Damage"... that would have been a nice play on words. The song is still pretty good though, not quiet "Exit Music", but still not too shabby in its own right.

There are rumors that Thom Yorke is set to appear in the movie as a hybrid wolf/vampire guy...he then destroys all that is Twilight. Praise be to Thom.

The GB track is one of my favorites from them ever. So haunting and gorgeous. Love the return to really full, lush production. That fuzz bass! And those "oooohs" in the 2nd verse. Out of control gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous.

And the Thom Yorke track is just as gorgeous. So good to hear lyrics like that from him right now. Defintely better than anything he's released solo lately, if ever. I love, love love love it.

Great songs, but its going to be tough letting my hard earned dollar go to something made for a movie geared towards teens struggling with puberty (and the New Moon werewolves thought they had body hair problems...)

Simple solution: Download that s#!t from digital storage space. You get the great music without supporting the franchise.

In this instance, just as with Jay-Z's "Blueprint 3" on LiveNation's label, I consider copyright infringement to be the principled course of action.

Reminds me of the Crow soundtrack. However good or bad you thought the Crow was, it was a goth movie for teens with stuff like Thrill Kill Cult, The Cure, and the Femmes. Good to know middle schoolers have a decent sign post coming their way. Stop watching High School Musical and start pissing off your parents fer chrissake.

At least the crow was rated R. With that movie we got drug use, blood, plenty of cussing, some bad ass fight scenes. And it was based on a rather cool comic book. With twilight we get sparkly vampires. whose parents is that gonna piss off?

There will be lots of blood, rough sex, fast cars, the use of morphine (even if its not for recreation...it still counts)...an epic fight to to defend or avenge what you hold dear...AND I HOPE ANOTHER KICK ASS SOUNDTRACK LIKE THIS ONE:) The crow was good...the twilight series is too...just give it a chance and a bit of time to piss of ma and pa...EH?

Hey! Where's Sufjan? Maybe this is where "You are the Blood" was supposed to end up. Since, you know. It would make more sense in a vampire movie soundtrack about people that eat each other's blood, than it does on a benefit album about a terminal blood disease.

Also. Sufjan is awesome!

Hearing Damage is hypnotic... hear it on headphones very loud and you will start seeing things spinning around... Thom Yorke is fu*cking nuts! The tweens will get freaked out hearing that! great Depeche Mode meets Joy Division meets Autechre track. BTW, The Killers song is good too.

I totally agree with you on the hypnotizing thing when listening to this song on the headphones. For me it starts at about 20 seconds from the beginning when the lower distorted sound comes in. It makes me feel kinda dizzy but in a nice way. I took that part and looped it for 3 minutes. It's like a constant high ;-)

sounds boring, unfortunately. could've been so much better considering the large swath of talent assembled here. most of these bands probably just sent in their throwaway stuff that wouldn't have seen the light of day otherwise. i predict that the emo vampire kids will swoon over it, and probably sit in the dark, cry and cut themselves also.

I'm not going to be an elitist pretentious twat and question why these artists wrote music for a soundtrack to a mainstream movie. Instead, I'm just glad to think that so many kids and Twilight fans are going to have a great opportunity to discover some fine artists that don't always have a large following. Music is meant to be shared, not to be kept a secret.

I hate to be the one to have to tell you all this but being fan of anyone on this soundtrack is now officially considered selling out to the mainstream. As someone who's never seen this movie [or the previous one], should I watch them before I continue with my hatred against a young adult-hood vampire romance movie? ? Tweens with Twilight posters on their walls are the new alt? ? WTF?! !

Could you please define "selling out" in your own words? I used to think one of the definitions of the term as it relates to music was compromising your artistic freedom in order to sell albums. To me it seems that the label that put this comp. together had to come to these bands hat in hand not the other way around. It is win win the band gains access to young kids and odd 30 year old Twilight fans and they get to play what they want how they want(unless you have proof they compromised their sound). As for your question about the movie it is what you would expect in a love story geared for tweens not a real cinema tour de force, to say the least.

Now that I've finally heard this soundtrack, I have to admit to it being one of the best soundtracks I've heard in quite a while. I agree with you when you say that bands on this soundtrack are not necessarily sacrificing their artistic integrity but that's beside the point. One could also argue that maybe they are selling this movie to us--the fans of the bands being featured on the Strk. This is 2009 and the music industry continues to hit new lows even while on it's last dying breath.

I never thought I'd say this, but it looks like I will own something relating to the Twilight franchise after all. The quality of the music makes up for any misgivings I had about it appearing in a movie marketed to tweens and the like.

This is possibly the best soundtrack since Garden State. 'Hearing Damage' is amazing. From a business perspective a spot on a Twilight soundtrack is about as close to a sure thing as there is. There is guaranteed exposure and its almost certain this thing will move a good number of units. A couple of these tracks could even be chart topping. But I am sure all of these artist would rather go back to playing clubs and sleeping in fans.

I dislike when people use the phrase "selling out"....what the fridge does that even mean anymore? God forbid these overly-talented musicians find success. I don't think being approached to do a song for a soundtrack is sellilng out. It's not like they're being offered (and accepting) roles in the movie.

I think you're just upset that this is a solid soundtrack for a franchise you aren't a fan of.

i care very little that this is the soundtrack to new moon. i thought it was a little gross that some studio exec. was trying to reel in indie crowds, but i was excited to hear that there would be new songs from artists that i love.

with that said, i'm not sure how tweenies and the like will take to this. it has the twilight name, but that doesn't mean they are going to suddenly appreciate grizzly bear and diligently listen to thom yorke's "the eraser." the songs are spacious, i would say.

i guess it's just because it's not the same shit that the radio shoves down their fucking throats.

There are some good cuts off this, especially, "Roslyn."

Listerners forget that artist need money to distribute their music, and this CD is a good example. People get mad because the second something gets popular they don’t want to listen. It’s not obscure enough. They feel like they’ve lost their identity when it’s something that everyone else listens to. Otherwise this music is solid, and I don't care where it comes from.
