Zooey Deschanel Does Synth Pop For The New Jim Carrey Flick

thumbnail icon: Zooey Deschanel Does Synth Pop For The New Jim Carrey Flick

Jim Carrey's upcoming remake of Liar, Liar fresh new film Yes Man has already earned itself some Gummy Indie Crush cred in casting Zooey Deschanel (aka one-half of the outfit behind Paste's favorite album of the year). The muso-crossover goes deeper, though: In the movie, Zooey appears as one-fourth of the fictional band Munchausen By Proxy, alongside SF electro trio Von Iva. In the movie, Jim's character (spoiler alert) can't say no to Zooey. (Or anything else.) Anyway there are two Munchausen songs to hear, here -- the synthy sweet ballad "Sweet Ballad" (lyric: "I'm not your late night booty call") and the obligatory film-titled tie-in "Yes Man." One of them's not bad. The other is.

The tracks come via The Playlist. Yes Man gets its theatrical release on 12/19. The film's OST is out now via Lakeshore, including four Munchausen By Proxy songs and a new tune from Eels titled "Man Up." E composed the film score with Lyle Workman. So there should be at least one aspect of the movie that's inspired.

"In the movie, Jim's character (spoiler alert) can't say no to Zooey."

What's this? A Jim Carrey movie with a realistic, believable premise? Wonders never cease.

I call "Meh" and move on.

"Meh" to the 2 songs, "meh" to the movie.

And "hellllllllo" to hunter's photo.

Actually, the movie isn't half bad. Go in with low expectations and see it for free and you'll be pleasantly surprised. Thank the guy from Flight of the Conchords for that.

It's official: Unit By Proxy is out of the window in my collection of future band names.

"One of them's not bad. The other is."

You forgot to add, "But neither are good."

Nothing ear grabbing, sounds like New Young Pony Club, which hit last year or the year before that? another example of when the name means more than the sound, Zoey this Zoey that.
