Zune Tattoo Guy Finally Gets More Than Stickers

Remember this guy?

Since last we checked in with "mszunefan," a couple of things happened. Namely, Microsoft found about his devotion to their pocket-sized revolution and offered him a rich reward for this prime, permanent advertising: stickers, five songs from the ZMP, and some Zune artwork. So moved by this magnanimous gesture was Zune boy, that he went back for round two. Look at those smiling eyes.

Zune tattoo once, stickers for you. Zune tattoo twice, fly to Microsoft for free! Engadget reports.:

Microsoft ... has decided to fly its biggest fan out to Redmond and give him the star treatment. In a post on the Zune Scene message boards, "mszunefan" says that he'll be making the trip on July 5th, during which he'll do an interview for Microsoft's Channel 10 and then meet his heroes: a no doubt slightly unnerved Zune team. We have to say we're kinda glad that Microsoft stepped in when it did, there's no telling where the next tattoo might have ended up.
And while we're talking PMPs ... have you heard it about iPhone's coolest feature? No, not the YouTube thing. Get this: The bigger your hand, the smaller the phone appears! (via Boing Boing)

Techmology. What is that all about? Is it good or is it wack?

I'd like to see what it would have looked like in Andre the Giant's hand.

It would look like Will Ferrel's phone from that one Saturday Night Live skit where he plays the fashion guy.

That's trippy. Don't trust anyone with an iPhone.

i bet my hand is smaller than that girl's on the right. yet i want one. what's wrong with me? the first generation's going to be all buggy anyway, even though they say you can download upgrades and stuff. i heard there's 3 million being shipped for the first day. i can't decide if that's too many or too few.

but fuck that at&t business. i'd be out the $600 plus whatever contract cancellation is. why couldn't they just make it unlocked?

> why couldn't they just make it unlocked?

Actually, there's a really cool article in the NYMag on Jobs that I couldn't work into the post.

http://nymag.com/news/features/33524/

So don't mind if I quote liberally from it here...

> Some critics have wondered why Apple didn’t
> release the iPhone as an “unlocked” device that
> could be used with any carrier. “No way,” says a
> venture capitalist who knows the cell-phone
> market inside out. “The mobile business is the
> best business in the world, and the operators
> are not going to be willing to let any device
> manufacturer take on their subscribers. Nokia
> has been trying to establish a direct
> relationship with the customer for twenty years,
> and they haven’t been able to do it. You have no
> choice but to do a deal with the devil. And you
> know it kills Jobs to have to do that deal.”

Also, a good para on the potential issues from the manufacturer of iPhone-rival smartphone "Ocean" ...

> “No removable battery. No removable memory. No
> GPS,” he says. “It has a bigger screen, so
> watching a movie on it will be better—but with
> no removable battery, you’re not really going to
> want to do that and make phone calls. So you’ve
> got the houseboat problem: It’s neither a house
> nor a boat, it’s both, and it’s not particularly
> great at either.”

But still, it's sexy. And you gotta admit, that hand-dependent size feature is pretty hott ;)

This guy looks like actor Mike Bruner who played the fat guy Michael tried to force up on the table during "The Merger" episode on The Office this past season.

If it is him, now we know how he spent that paycheck.

Can't any phone with a SIM card be unlocked, whether the phone's manufacturer admits it or not?

Nobody seems to be addressing the main concern of this post. What has possesed that guy to get Zune tattoos? What about the Zune makes it so amazing that one is compelled to emblazon it on their body. Has this guy explained his devotion? I honestly want to know why.

I personally think he is getting paid (secretly) to do this, like when Sony paid all those Graffiti Artists to tags buildings with PSPs. I mean why else in the hell he would do it? The Zune is a paperweight when compared to the Ipod and PC owners generally don't go to the level of devotion that Mac users do. (I know I've been a Mac cultist since the late eighties.) To stage a viral marketing campaign that went that far is both brilliant and pathetic.

Are you kidding me, Skiddle. The Zune is a much better product than the iPod. Zune has all the features of iPod and has Wifi. Granted there aren't as many after market accessories to the Zune, but eventually there will be some.

I own both a 30 GB video iPod and a Zune. I prefer the Zune.

I'll bet you 124 zune points that you're wrong about the zune being better than the iPod.

Looking at this guy, I sure hope that the Zune supports Nike+.
