Biography: Santogold
It may seem like Santogold came out of nowhere in 2007 as the go-to choice for DJs and advertising campaigns alike for her shifting new wave/dub/electro-pop stylings, but Philly's Santi White comes packing an extensive music-related résumé to help explain things. Santi started scouting talent for Epic Records as an A&R rep, went on to write and produce the debut album for rock/R&B artist Res, and later fronted Philly punk/ska band Stiffed. Add a fast friendship with the Spank Rock/M.I.A./Diplo set to those writing and music biz smarts, and suddenly Santogold's schizophrenic and perfectly packaged dance bangers suddenly seem all too logical. Bonus points: She's got a big fan in Björk, and knows how to sit steady on a horse.
