Black n’ Roll Tom!!! ;)

I don’t know if I like this as much as their s/t, but it’s definitely grown on me. This album seems a bit more serious to me whereas the first one was just about pure fun, but yeah, good stuff.

Always good to see some metal as aotw.

I would like to say in a more positive comment than my last one, nice job Stereogum! I always love metal lists because, regardless of placing, it gives me a whole bunch of new bands to check out. You guys have probably released the most kvlt list I’ve seen so far;) Congrats!

 +1Posted on Dec 10th, 2012 | re: Stereogum's Top 40 Metal Albums Of 2012 (100 comments)

These comments always confuse me. There are multiple songs on AWLWLB that have nothing hardcore about them at all. The title track, Aimless Arrow, Predatory Glow, Trespasses, Shame in the Way, Coral Blue….Why would Converge not be considered metal? I understand they are part hardcore and part metal, but they’re at a minimum 50 50 I would say.

Ok I missed the boat on Lana Del Ray and don’t really understand what’s going on.. do people like this chick? Why is she on stereogum every day when people supposedly hate her? I’m confused…

I’m sorry I know people like to defend tyler the creator (for whatever reason) but the more I hear and see about the guy (regardless of “context”), the more I think he is just an overhyped moron. I know he’s “just a kid” and all (bull shit) but I’m twenty years old and I’m not allowed to assault people, I’m expected to act like an adult and use my words. There is no defending acting like this no matter who you are, especially over your stage show sounding like shit. Guess what, you have a dream world job so get over it. Trust me your problems aren’t that bad Tyler.

Am I the ONLY one who is sick to death of adele? If she never made another song, or album, and just in general was gone from the musical face of the Earth I would be happy. I cannot believe with how overplayed everything by adele is people still enjoy her. Yeah I thought someone like you and rolling in the deep were pretty good too, but they are not songs that can be played 15 million times and still sound good. There are plenty of songs that stand up to being played on repeat forever and still sound good. Nothing on 21 is that good, and it drives me nuts that people act like adele’s new album is the fantastic work of art. It’s a lot of filler, some ok songs and that’s about it.

Strong argument friend, did you take debate?

For my money, Tom, you’re doing a great job of keeping the metal flame alive on stereogum. Keep it up! I’ll have to listen to this one again, my first impression was that it wasn’t as good as “taste the sin.” But, i literally listened to it once while driving so, my bad.

Well that was fucked up

 +2Posted on Oct 6th, 2011 | re: R.I.P. Steve Jobs (55 comments)

I basically refuse to listen to albums unless I’m listening to the whole thing, and I love my ipod. So I think it can be done.

 +3Posted on Oct 4th, 2011 | re: Metallica Turn 30 (17 comments)

It’s pretty great seeing this on an indie blog. Early Metallica is some of the most innovative, influential, and just straight up best music of all time. Glad to see them appreciated in a venue like this.

I remember in high school (maybe 07?) my two friends and I would drive around, literally just drive, and put on smells like teen spirit. I would play air drums, back seat played guitar, and driver played bass. I don’t know how many times we listened to that song and just headbanged our dicks off. Just three greasy teenagers, one with long hair and a slayer shirt on, doing nothing but loving music.

Kid sure can skip a damn rock huh?

+1Posted on Jul 29th, 2011 | re: Under The Influence: Krallice Diotima (27 comments)

Wow, this sucks. Haunting the chapel is by far the best metal blog on the internet, and now it will be gone. Make sure you update show no mercy over on pitchfork to make it as badass as HTC was over here. Sad to see the column go, but at least it will be continued (more or less) elsewhere.

Thanks for all the great music you’ve turned me onto, and for having the guts to post about anal cunt on an indie rock website. It’s pathetic how religiously I’ve checked this page over the last year or so, and I’ll be sad to remove that from my ritual of the interwebs.

Good luck at Pitchfork, Brandon, you will be missed.

 +1Posted on Jul 27th, 2011 | re: Opeth - "The Devil's Orchard" (Stereogum Premiere) (139 comments)

Ok, now that I’ve listened to the song on repeat for a day, I can say that the song is pretty freaking great. I really didn’t want another damnation, because, in spite of the opinions of apparently every Opeth fan, I thought Damnation was pretty boring. Yeah, it’s good, but it’s definitely my least listened to Opeth album. I’m really happy this song is SO PROGGY. I like the (almost bombastic) odd time signatured riffs, the massive mood shifts to something completely different (though completely the same in a way), and the overall creepy, but welcoming sound of the song. I used to be terrified of this album because of how it was described, but after reading Decibel’s interview, and hearing this song (and the album being htc approved) I can say without a doubt this is my most anticipated album coming this year.

By the way, congratulations HTC on getting such a huge premiere. It’s great to see such a big band as Opeth putting their first single off the album in the hands of a blog that generally covers the underground. Good idea Mikael.

I guess they Michicant come to detroit… Bastards

+5Posted on Jul 23rd, 2011 | re: This Week's Best And Worst Comments (58 comments)

I don’t know if I like the idea. I feel like the monster’s ball over at Videogum makes it so there is no actual discussion of any topic, just a bunch of inside jokes and random stuff that has nothing to do with the actual story, everyone just wants the most laughs from everyone else. And I’m not knocking videogum, it’s great for them, and I admit I could never comment like them, BUT I come to stereogum because people do have thought provoking comments (sometimes not) and I would like the discussion to stay music centered.

So, everybody make a conscious effort to not turn stereogum into videogum

Love,
Guy who’s opinion matters to everyone

Sooooo these guys write some riffs huh? Jesus

+1Posted on Jul 18th, 2011 | re: The Atlas Moth - "Coffin Varnish" (Stereogum Premiere) (3 comments)

Listen, Brandon, you need to stop getting all these awesome track premieres, interviews, and announcements of new albums and stuff. You’re going to put all other metal blogs out of business!

Awesome track, I could never really fully get into A Glorified Piece of Blue Sky, but this sounds a lot more up my alley. Looking forward to the album.

0Posted on Jul 13th, 2011 | re: Under The Influence: Tombs Path Of Totality (8 comments)

It always blows my mind how perfectly you can describe an album.

I wasn’t all that big on Path.. at first, I just didn’t really get the hype, but I’ve had it on repeat to try and “get” it, and it’s definitely a grower. I’m enjoying it a lot more now that I’ve sat down and REALLY listened to it.

I’ll get back to you all with my final verdict soon (and I know you’ll be holding your breath)

So, Brandon (and anybody else who feels like throwing in their two cents), looking forward in the year, what is your most anticipated? Mine is definitely Dream Theater’s new one, but I’m a big fanboy so I’m positive that won’t be the general consensus.

Also, Mastodon: excited, or totally over them?

Finally, Opeth: I remember reading a review of Ghost Reveries you wrote, and it seemed as though you quite liked it. Are you excited at all for their new “Progressive Rock meets Jazz Fusion” approach? I don’t know what to think yet.

+1Posted on Jun 28th, 2011 | re: Haunting The Chapel's Top 26 Metal Albums Of 2011 So Far (82 comments)

Wow, I’m surprised I thought for sure krallice would be your number one! Now I’m even more excited for Disma though, it got a nine in decibel and i was excited, but number two of the year so far? Sign me up. ‘ll also have to check out Ulcerate again for sure.

God, I love lists so much

+1Posted on Jun 21st, 2011 | re: "Visions Of American Black Metal": Liturgy's Hunter Hunt-Hendrix Responds (17 comments)

Thank God, it’s hard enough defending Liturgy from stupid People who call them “hipster Metal,” without that little tirade. He doesn’t seem like the kind of dude, to me at least, that would leave comments like that. Good to know, and for the record, Aesthethica is FANTASTIC, and probably one of only a couple albums this year that have truly blown me away.
