Agreed. “Astro Coast” was excellent and I still replay it. Listened to everything since with an open & excited ear, but it just doesn’t seem to get my goat. Hopefully the album will surprise us, eh?
Totally agree with “Hard to Explain” as #1. What a gem of a jam that encapsulates what is/was so damn good about the Strokes.
We actually just did a podcast discussing the utter significance of “Is This It”, the bumpy road to “Comedown Machine” and how it finally sounds like they’re enjoying music again with the latter…

Word. Guess the early release kinda buried it.
Little ridiculous that Action Bronson is #3 and Kool AD isn’t even on the list. Joey needs to be higher, cmon.
In retrospect, it’s amazing how relatively little recognition/hype CC has gotten after churning out three great records. Diggin this one already.
Awesome, thanks for sharing Corban. “Breakers” was excellent, curious to hear the rest. Saw them debut a few new track lasts Dec in Seattle (http://apesontape.com/local-natives-debut-songs-from-new-album/). One was apparently titled “49 Palms” (not on the “Hummingbird” tracklist) and another that was unnamed at the time. Will have to see if the latter matches with these…
Michael, what are you two or three favorite songs of the year?
Very interesting to look back at the range of trajectories for all the early 00′s garage rock bands. From White Stripes non-existence to the Hives still just shreddin’ it after two decades to, well, this…
Lonersim, definitely my personal AOTY (http://apesontape.com/album-review-tame-impala-lonerism/). Feel like detractors are writing it off for including musical elements that *gasp* other humans have used before. That never happens though. Anyhow, will give this puppy a spin so I know what I’m missing!
Album isn’t actually out til next week (10/9) on Modular. But easily one of my favorite albums of the year.
not to jump on the self-promo train, but our band covered “i got mine” and I feel like the stereogummers would dig it.

“nice story, bro”
This is odd to see, because Das Racist’s press release stated Talib Kweli was one of their “least favorite rappers”. ie: http://do512.com/c/sx2012/bands/das-racist. Anyhow, guess they changed their minds.
Love the band, very informative article with their drummer Jacob Hyman here http://tinyurl.com/4cc6csa

Farewell, thank you, and pleasant voyages, Mr. Manzarek…
