I’m going with Pitchfork on that call. The Shins album this year was a complete letdown.
Thanks for writing this. I couldn’t agree more.
This is probably one of the more solid lists I’ve seen so far this year. #19 and #20 kinda leave me scratching my head (what happened to Ariel Pink or DIIV??) but overall, I’m happy. Fives all around!
same story here. i saw DIIV open for Wild Nothing in SF and they surprisingly stole the show. i’m totally feeling DIIV at that #1 spot.
i wanted Huh? to be better than it is. it just left me longing for the days of LAGWAFIS.
too much rap = indie white guilt
that hello sequence album was a BIG surprise. i guess losing your collective band hair does wonders for your musical choices.
agreed. super solid album…it deserves better.
Man…am I the only one not feeling the Top 10? Call me crazy, but I’d easily put Beach House, DIIV, Grizzly Bear, Tame Impala, Chromatics, and Purity Ring above the Top 10 of this list.
And Port of Morrow? Really? That album was just turdiful.
Did anyone else listen to A Place To Bury Strangers, Liars, or Bear In Heaven this year?? All three turned out solid showings with little to no love.
I’m with you. Kid A slightly over Ok Computer but it’s oh so slight.
You’re original comment was spot on in my book. Dear Catastrophe Waitress and everything after pales in comparison to the older recordings.
snore…
phoenix should be #1.
girls album is a creeper. all you haters should give it a few more listens. it took me a while but now i love it.
jason lytle, richard swift, fanfarlo, and elvis perkins all made some impressive recordings this year…too bad none of them have been mentioned.

A new Death From Above 1979 would be EPIC!!
