i was confused by the Best New Artist nom at first because it’s not like Bon Iver are exactly /new/

apparently the award stipulates: “for a new artist who releases [...] the first recording which establishes the public identity of that artist”

marks for effort i guess?? but next time try and submit your homework on time.

I liked the Fleet Foxes album as much as the next person but second best of 2011?

i mean it /is/ the second best Fleet Foxes album, but that’s because they only have two.

“Suck It And See finds the Arctic Monkeys especially comfortable in their maturing skin”

probably the most remarkable thing for me when I saw them on their curent tour a couple days ago, was that, though it was the 4th time I’d see them, it was the first time I’d ever seen Alex truly comfortable on stage, and that definitely reflected in the music (not only in how they played their newer songs, but also in how they played stuff from their first two albums).

I thought the album was fantastic, but yeah, it did take a couple of listens through (that said, ‘That’s Where You’re Wrong’ and ‘Suck It And See’ where instant favourites. so good!!)

I feel like the only person who had Balmorhea’s “Constellations” and Ben Sollee & Daniel Martin Moore’s “Dear Companion” at the top of their 2010 list. both were crazy amazing

 +2Posted on Dec 17th, 2010 | re: Pitchfork's Top 50 Albums Of 2010 (222 comments)

I have to admit, though I don’t necessarily disagree with Kanye being #1, and I certainly loved the record myself, I guess I don’t really get how it seems to top lists across the board? I mean it’s a good and solid album, but it didn’t really capture me in the way that I’d consider it hands down the BEST of 2010 (plus there were G.O.O.D. Friday tracks I actually liked a lot more).

That said, if we’re making a list of top 2010 twitter accounts, Kanye takes ALL the awards, and then some.

oh I didn’t mean to imply Drake shouldn’t win, though personally I am completely uninterested in him, god knows anyone would be preferable to Bieber. I’m not even gonna go into whether Mumford deserve Best New Artist or not (obviously you think not!), I’ll just be glad to benefit off their increased profile regardless

it’s very true that Mumford & Sons have a similar sound to the Avett Bros (love them too), but by that same argument you could say all of the nominees are just a wannabe someone else. I make no claims as to Mumford’s originality, but they are very good at their derivative thing then, cause I can’t think of an album I’ve listened to more this year #personaltasteetcetc

as much as I usually couldn’t care less about the grammys, I have to say, despite the fact that they will almost certainly lose out to Drake or some shit for Best New Artist, I’m really pleased that Mumford & Sons are even nominated, cause the publicity they’ll get from that will hopefully enable them to play my hometown next tour #selfishness

I have to admit normally I am a bit underwhelmed by Girl Talk albums compared to how consistently fabulous his live show is, but Dominique Young Unique + Madness?

agreed on Hundred In The Hands, ‘Tom Tom’ is easily one of my favourite tunes of the summer

 0Posted on Sep 1st, 2010 | re: Cee-Lo - "Fuck You" Video (3 comments)

still my favourite thing ever

 +4Posted on Sep 1st, 2010 | re: Stereogum's 40 Best New Bands Of 2010 (142 comments)

still don’t get the Best Coast hype, but yay, Dominant Legs & Gold Panda & Tanlines & Cults! although generally, my top 2010 bands list veers more in the Stornoway, Admiral Fallow, and Goldheart Assembly direction

also, can I just say, fabulous job on the formatting? A++++

basically this is just fabulous. so much love.

ahh, this is so great! it’s kind of everything I loved in Passion Pit last summer.

Sigh No More only saw North American release in February. and yeah, it’s just you, cause it is, in fact, amazing.

0Posted on Jul 2nd, 2010 | re: NPR Listeners' Top 50 Albums Of 2010 So Far (92 comments)

surprisingly (or not so surprisingly?) almost all my favourites of the year so far are here, despite being a little (or a lot) out of order.

only, I feel like the only one who simply loved Ben Sollee’s & Daniel Martin Moore’s Dear Companion? easily one of my top five for sure.

Tempted to download solely for that amazing Mark Weaver album art. So good!

 +10Posted on Apr 8th, 2010 | re: M.I.A. Assesses Lady Gaga (41 comments)

“None of her music’s reflective of how weird she wants to be or thinks she is,” completely sums up my feelings on Lady Gaga. I admit I probably would enjoy all the outrageous fashion and image more if her own artistic output actually reflected any of what she’s supposed to represent, but her music is just so overwhelmingly bland to me.

0Posted on Feb 9th, 2010 | re: Archie Bronson Outfit - "Shark's Tooth" Video (Stereogum Premiere) (9 comments)

oh man, with that video I am reminded as much as ever of Clinic’s ‘The Magician’, and I LOVE it.

I’ve never listened to Yeasayer before, but I am in complete and utter LOVE with this song.

 0Posted on Nov 17th, 2009 | re: NME's 50 Greatest Albums Of The '00s (149 comments)

Despite the fact that I’m seriously dubious about some positions of some albums, somehow this still is the best BEST list I’ve seen; so refreshing to see no Animal Collective or Grizzly Bear! #minoritygum

Though seriously, Twilight Sad’s Forget The Night Ahead instead of Fourteen Autumns And Fifteen Winters? I love both these albums, but NME, come on, first one’s so much better.
