Only time will tell. It’s hard to make predictions like that. A lot of people (myself included) thought Katy Perry would be a one hit wonder (I Kissed a Girl), but now look at her. She’s breaking records for the most number ones.
The opposite could be said about bands and artist everyone thought were going to “blow up”, most of them are still unknown or disbanded. After realizing this I stopped making predictions of success and failure in the music industry, now I just enjoy the music.
At the end of the day the predictions are just used to boost our egos. So we can say–I knew they’d be a one hit wonder, or I knew he would blow up, I was a fan since the first mixtape blah, blah, blah… It’s all pointless self-indulgent drivel.
That’s Gaga’s worst videos to date. I like her music–but she’s just trying too hard at this point.
I like The Roots, but they really shouldn’t have played that song when Bachmann came out. I’m not a fan of her’s, but stuff like this only gives Fox and all the nut-balls more ammunition. It was a dumb move all around…
I feel like this is a joke, does that make me a bad person?
Summertime Sadness is legit. I can’t wait to hear the recorded version.
That’s similar to what her manager said when asked why she releases albums so quickly. I agree with that somewhat–but I think it also shows they don’t have faith in her talent.
Because there’s artists and bands that can go five years without releasing anything, and come back just as relevant as ever. The long wait actually helps some of them build hype. If she goes away for two-three years people won’t forget about her. It would actually make them hungrier for new music.
Anticipate, not appreciate.
If you’ve followed Rihanna from the start, you’d quickly realize that she’s released a new album almost every year since her debut. “Good Girl Gone Bad” is her longest running album. Partly because it was her breakout one, and the whole Chris Brown thing happened towards the end of that album cycle.
So around this time next year she’ll probably have album number 7 out. It’s slightly annoying because it doesn’t really give you anything to truly appreciate.
Damn, I thought Lady Gaga released videos fast. Hopefully she’s doing this so she can take a few years off after she has her baby. She deserves a nice break, one that lasts more than a year.
Someone else that needs a break is Rihanna, she basically releases a new album every year. She came out in 2005, and this year she’s releasing her sixth album! I thought Beyonce was over-saturating the market at one point–but Rihanna proved me wrong.
Fail on me, it’s 4 not 5.
A third song? She’s actually released 5 under Lana Del Rey. Do we not count the ones that started showing up on her YouTube before “Video Games” hit? Serious question :)
Anyways, she’s like a deer in the headlights, poor girl ha-ha…
Love it!
Ha-ha, I’m surprised you guys didn’t censor out that title.
Exactly, I guess this is why this is a premature evaluation. Because I didn’t notice what was going on until I listened another time, it’s one song broken up.
Great video, but the boy puts on the hoodie without a shirt, and then when he goes outside you can clearly see a black shirt under it. That’s fine only one mistake–well not quite, later the shirt is now white. Little things like that shouldn’t be missed in a video this beautiful.
Great video, but I can’t explain it to you because it makes no sense to me either haha

Yeah most of the stuff that gets posted here is probably based on the author’s tastes. But that’s the case with most blogs so you really can’t complain. Although, it is unfortunate when some good indie bands go ignored here, and stuff like Waka Flocka Flame gets posted. I love all types of music (hip hop was my first love), but Waka is… just, ugh.
At least he’s “retiring”. Speaking of that, I blame Jay-Z for starting that trend. Don’t announce that shit, just stop making music. Announcing it is just a cry for attention.
