“If you get offended by his lyrics, why even bother listening to and writing about him?”

Hmm, I dunno, maybe cos it’s his job as a music writer?!

That’s a liberty you get to utilise when you are a writer. Boo hoo.

NANG

this is a wicked video but why do they women have to be in their underwear? they’d look just as sexy if they were wearing suits like the men. i dunno, hate to be whiny or whatever but it’s just such a slick classy video that the tits and panties seems to be a bit incongruous with the overall style… meh

have to admit i am not so keen on this one. i am not particularly fussed about the fact it’s sung over a gold panda track, some great songs have come about this way (björk – i go humble and heirloom are both sung over other people’s instrumental tracks and i love those) it just doesn’t have that massive hooky epic chorus i’ve come to expect from her. looking forward to the album though.

totally irrelevant comment but it’s been bugging me for ages now, why does every page on stereogum always load twice?

i think i probably just woke my neighbour up laughing at this gif!

visually maybe Grimes and Gaga are similar but the difference is that Grimes’ music has a bit more soul, it’s interesting, layered and not so obvious where gaga’s is generally a lot more blatant and less subtle. even visually though grimes is a bit more interesting cos it’s not so obvious again what the message is, (if there is one). Gaga’s ‘art’ is usually just about a cult of personality and obsessing over fame and materialism, with the odd crucifix thrown in for good measure to create some pseudo controversy. Don’t get me wrong i am not hating on her, some of her music is really fun and she is a compelling pop figure, but i think Grimes’ is more in line with the sort of scandinavian electro pop vibe than gaga, just cos they both dress eccentrically.

100 years ago all music was released this way.

you don’t have to record music to write music. i used to live with a guy who wrote an entire symphony inside his head straight onto sheet music without every even trying it out on a keyboard first. when it was played by a local orchestra it was stunning. i have started tentatively looking into music theory recently but this is great motivation to get me off my ass and actually learn how to read music.

while a song by a mainstream band like muse about the total stupidity and hopelessness of the system that our powers are using to run society is a very good thing, it sounding like this isn’t. although maybe hammy dramatics and derpstep beats is what’s needed to hammer the message home to most people.

don’t get me wrong i am all for evolution and progression of sound, and this has a fantastic beat, but unlike their old stuff, there is just little to no hook whatsoever…

the new Bonde do Role material is failing to excite me. Their first album was incredible. I hope this is just a case of slow growing caused by how different it is to their old sound…

M.I.A. Bad Girls or Major Lazer Get Free are my choices, even if they did come out before summer, they are PURE SUMMER

This is so fucked up, dubstep and neon paint DO NOT GO. The music all you people are talking about IS NOT DUBSTEP.

I am not hating on skrillex or anything, but what he makes isn’t dubstep and shouldn’t be called dubstep, it’s something new and different. I mean heck, there are so many sub genres in dance music as it is, why have they not diverged from dubstep. it should be called ravestep or something, i dunno

this sort of music is like steroid fuelled hyper kinetic ravey pop stuff, dubstep is sparse, stark and eerie and was made to reflect the isolation and social disconnect of council estate london. sorry to get nit picky, but this just isn’t dubstep.

The audio on TV show performances always sounds so crap! I really like this video cos it’s cool to see his band play live but I reckon it sounded so much better in person. I have seen alot of bands live and been blown away then watched tv performances and been underwhelmed… There’s no bass for starters!
