Putting Master and Everyone that low is possibly your biggest misfire yet, Stereogum.
The exclusion of Little Kids is a criminal one.
Great list. Totally agree re: “Steam Engine” possibly being their best and most quintessential song. That song gets to me every single time.
Yeah. Deerhunter is one of my favorite bands, I keep trying to like this but I just don’t. There are a few good tracks, but so much of it sounds either uninspired or a complete rehash of old melodies/songs.
I listened to the stream and liked it ok, then listened to it on a long drive today and it blew me away.
LOL @ no Soma on this list, but a song from the abysmal Comedown Machine is on it.
Seriously, guys, SOMA.
In case you missed this article last month, supposedly this album is “very avant-garde” – http://consequenceofsound.net/2013/02/deerhunter-recording-very-avant-garde-new-studio-album/
On the Beach. Ambulance Blues. I’m not even sure what the song’s about really, but it’s one of the saddest sounding songs I’ve ever heard.
In this case, it’d probably be more apt to praise Shoshanna.
Ray Wise shows up in the most random places.
That’s actually a part of a new Daft Punk song? When I watched the 15 second video last night, I just assumed it was the SNL house band playing…whenever a musical guest is about to play, during the preceding commercials they always show the band for a few seconds with almost that exact song playing. Hmm.
I saw Chris Robinson cover No Expectations before being familiar with the song, and now it’s an absolute favorite.
Hahaha, well played.
Can’t You Hear Me Knocking is the best Stones song by a mile in my book. A big part of the reason I regard Sticky Fingers so highly.
Sticky Fingers is my #1…I like Exile but never understood what everyone sees in it.
Oh and re: Spoon, I realize I’m in the vast minority here but I honestly feel they’ve gotten better and better with each album.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I wonder how much Thom had to pay the Ghostland Observatory dude to be in this.
Seriously. That’s the biggest misfire of any of these lists. Ever.
No Hotwax. For shame.
Seriously. The Lotus Plaza album from this year is so good.

Reasonable Doubt is #1 my a landslide. Come on now.
Yeah, wtf River Euphrates!!! Definitely in my top 3.
BONE MACHINE. BONE MACHINE. BONE MACHINE. GTFO.
Seriously. Fine For Now gets me like no other of their songs do. When the song explodes at the end is just pure bliss each and every time.

Definitely. Blood Embrace is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard.
