so…i live in chicago but lolla’s headliners suck some major 80s balls this year whereas i imagine a Phish show on psychedelics would be about as deck as it gets
hmmm…I think this year might demand Bonaroo>Lolla
besides, i can still go to P4K

so, putting aside my growing frustration w/gum’s infatuation with finding/criticizing lists (especially UK ones) because I haven’t seen a list of the last 5 years yet, Here are my worthless thoughts:

what I would have included:
Boys and Girls in America, Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, Person Pitch, Good News for People Who Love Bad News, Ghostface, Antony or Hercules & LA, Emeritus, Hypermagic Mountain

and I would have preferred NOT to see:
Kings of Leon (do i even need to say that), MGMT, Block Party, Hot Chip, M.I.A., In Rainbows

Chitown baby

dude i don’t know what you put in your kool-aid but I want it

one of the most unique bands out there today, awesome video
when i try to describe Ponytail to a friend, i start with “they sound like_____” and then draw a blank (maybe Deerhoof?) and just describe them as “fucking______” (crazy, weird, incredible, mind-blowing, experimental, fun”
I guess they sound like how E would sound if it morphed into a band

pretty similar to narrow stairs, so much for hoping for a sweeping change for their next release

haha they’re so much less cool than us

0Posted on Jan 29th, 2009 | re: Band To Watch: The Rayographs (10 comments)

That being said, they do sound a lot like Grace Slick, very cool, I like it

0Posted on Jan 29th, 2009 | re: Band To Watch: The Rayographs (10 comments)

I’m sure you’ve heard of Jefferson Airplane/Starship (Grace Slick’s bands), The Pixies (Kim Deal’s band, who with her sister heads The Breeders) and Patti Smith (no explanation needed I hope)
White Magic is a current psychedelic act with female lead vocals

Am I the only one who doesn’t see anything new/interesting in Bon Iver? It wasn’t THAT good

 0Posted on Dec 16th, 2008 | re: Pitchfork's Top 100 Tracks Of 2008 (177 comments)

Agreed. To me, Deerhunter seems like one of those bands whose albums are greater than the sum of their songs, but don’t contain any real stand-out singles. Also pretty hard to take a single from Girl Talk, so the absence of Girl Talk doesn’t surprise, despite P4K’s high review of the album.

So pumped to see AC in Chitown next month
Most fun I’ve had at a show this year: Hold Steady
Most life-changing: Radiohead
Worst: MGMT, hands-down

hooray for peacefullness
at least one person on the internet isn’t angry

 0Posted on Dec 11th, 2008 | re: Rolling Stone's Top 50 Albums Of 2008 (131 comments)

Its almost eerie how closely this year’s list follows the bizarre “we love everything” format they used in 2007′s list
#1- Someone deserving (TVOTR and M.I.A.)
#2- Dad-rock (Dylan and Springsteen)
#3 Average hip-hop album from well-known artist (Weezy, Jay-Z)
#4 Okay album by well-known indie band (Evil Urges, Neon Bible)
#40-50 Shitty pop-acts (Jonas Brothers, The Academy Is; Britney Spears, Fall Out Boy)
