Really? No. REALLY?!
Singing along in an imitation voice to Wild Beasts must be THE MOST annoying trait my new neighbours have had to deal with….
I can’t wait for the K’Nex take of Drunk Girls
Russell Brand has written a surprisingly touching and intelligent post on the news and the nature of addiction: http://www.russellbrand.tv/2011/07/for-amy/
There are a fair few who have screamed out in some sort of rage/bemoaning about this hubbub surrounding her death (with those seemingly finding it hard to believe that people could be empathic towards more than one thing at once, as evident in the first comment, quite common). But there are plenty of others who have claimed the ‘great status’ with similar backgrounds John Belushi could have had a massive, Bill Murray-esque (Peter Venkman was created for him), film career before dying of a speedball after becoming a heavy drug user. Still, he is greatly regarded. Similar with River Phoenix, Chris Farley, Brad Renfro. And musicians like Jay Reatard, Joplin and even Jeff Buckley. History will set her as great because of her music, regardless of what happened around or after that…
As a longtime Videogum commentator (whenever I could think of something awesome to say), I am EXCITED about this and hope it brings a more active Stereogum comment community. I must say my music love slightly peaks above my TV/Movie love, so this could be interesting….
Also, I GOTTA WIN!
I think Mr Vernon has a soft spot for George Michael…
I know it was a Bonnie Raitt track first BUT George Michael did a relatively successful cover AND Gayngs have covered ‘One More Try’ from the 80s heartthrob/00s mess for Daytrotter before….
As a music fan with a mother who played George Michaels solo work to DEATH as a child, I can feel the love….
As a tiny bit of a Northern Soul Nerd (primarily through my father who was a proper Northern Soul Scenester back in the day and still DJs around the Midlands here in the UK), it is pretty lovely to see some of the dance moves here and there.
Had no idea the US Skins had utilised it though! The American one!? Not even the British one?!?!
Indie Twee Christmas Time? ALL SYSTEMS GO!!!!
Saw this guy supporting Girls…was a WONDERFUL lo-fi gig. Cant wait for a debut album.
LOVE THIS so much. I want the ability to be able to craft such loveable electronica, so warm and fuzzy, damn my lack of musical talent.
Generally not a massive fan of these kind of remixes/sampling shenanigans but I find myself listening to this one a few times; I feel it’s mainly down to the industrial strength that the original track has, as I am currently obsessed with the new LCD album.
Oh Boy Oh Boy Oh Boy I missed these guys…
Way to live up to a band name!
Also, awesome song all around guys…
Someone still loves you Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin…
(that someone is me…)
I can concur that it is perfectly acceptable to take the music separately from the movies and thus judge them on their own merits…
However it is still somewhat upsetting to see bands you love become involved, possibly because of commercial reasons, with a terrible franchise (whether its a film or a corporation such as McDonalds).
The fusion of music and film can be absolutely awe inspiring (see Blade Runner, Eternal Sunshine, Donnie Darko and many more), so to see such bands wasted on lackluster and nonsensical movies is simply distressing for the state of musical integrity and creation.
I hate advertising. And I hate pointless covers for advertising sakes..
But this version still makes me somehow ‘AAW’ myself every time it pops on my tellybox. Damn you emotions!
Most of all, I think I will miss his moustache. And his nonchalance style of playing. All ‘fuck you’ and ‘look at my moustache’….
Saw these guys in Camden last week, very good live. They have an overwhelming quality about their sound albeit in a comforting and enjoyable way.
A massive part of me really wishes the band looked like this motley crue of awesome..
Hey Joanna, I know you’re not reading this anymore, so this makes it easier to tell you. I love you. That is all. Thank you Internet!
Not really, considering violence on this level and worst occurs practically every day in far flung countries and areas where we never stop think of. MIA has a strong political stand and its not particularly ‘pointless’ to highlight the violence that occurs in many situations; i’m not saying that every single musician should do so but I would never say highlighting real violence is pointless.
Pure Enjoyability. With each mention of New York in music, my drive to go there steps up a notch…
A sunny 80s day where I am sipping a martini I don’t particularly like whilst on a Miami beach (oh and I am in a cheesy movie)

I want him to be my long distant lover…is that weird???
