I haven’t liked their last few albums at all (loved most of All That You Can’t Leave Behind though), but I’m still very interested in hearing about their new singles whenever they arrive. I’m not particularly interested in their other news or song debuts unless it’s a single, part of the Spider-Man musical, or particularly good…

I love it!
It’s like The Joshua Tree mixed with Darkness on the Edge of Town, yet completely original!

Also agreed, The Monitor was my favorite album of the year so far and certainly at least top-10 material!

I absolutely love a decent chunk of Avi Buffalo’s album (Summer Cum, Jessica, What’s In It For), but as a whole, it’s not even close in quality to High Violet by The National or Beach Fossils’ album in my opinion

Nice playlists! I actually just made my SUMMER JAMS mix a few days ago!
Some notable 2010 summer jams from mine:
“Power” by Kanye West
“Ghost Train” by Summer Camp
“Jailbreak” by Thin Lizzy (Summer throwback jam)
“Vacation” by Beach Fossils
“Wait Up (Boots of Danger)” by Tokyo Police Club
“REVOFEV” by Kid Cudi
“Down By the Water” by The Drums (Summer slow jam)
“Shine Blockas” by Big Boi
“Wouldn’t It Be Bad” Lady Gaga & Ke$ha VS. The Beach Boys by DJ Clive$ter (Summer mash-jam)

I love this band, but I really wish everything I love wasn’t covered in meat today (ie this video, the KFC Double Down ads on here).. it’s really grossing me out..

It would be amazing if the album version sounded like this, but alas, there’s nearly no chance of that happening…

pretty easily the best song they’ve (well ,Billy Corgan has) made since the singles from Melon Collie…
I surprisingly actually like this!

Whoa!
[adult swim] really needs to give this man a show!

I have a feeling he’d love it.. Ever hear The Replacements’ cover of I Got You Babe? It’s sloppily fantastic (just like all their covers of songs)
(Obviously, Unsatisfied has a lot more emotion behind it, but I think Courtney does an interesting take on it)

Ma’am, I don’t mean to be impolite, but do you actually read Stereogum, or do you just have a Google News Alert about Owl City? At least 9 out of 10 of the news articles discuss bands that are well-liked here. Can there not be one band to discuss and hate on?

you would think that with all the stealing this guy does, he could turn it into something decent.. you know, like Girl Talk does.

I like the Magnetic Fields’ song, but it sounds eerily similar to Busby Berkelely Dreams from 69 Love Songs..

Dude.. Lou Reed not naming his app “Lou Read” or “The Lou Reader” was such a missed opportunity

Taylor Swift got higher on the list than Morrissey?! Say what?!

Television might have a new album coming out! I’m asking around online right now for updates about it, no responses yet though…

0Posted on Dec 7th, 2009 | re: Rivers Cuomo & Family In Bus Crash, Weezer Shows Canceled (26 comments)

this accident is sad, but most of those comments so far are tragic(ally mean-spirited and terrible toward someone who’s music they presumably like at least parts of who just got into a bus crash)
I’m just glad everyone’s gonna be ok

I agree w/ all of those, but I’m really really surprised Sufjan isn’t on here.. it certainly fits the requirements…

No Courtney Love love?!
just kidding, that album is never gonna come out..

 0Posted on Nov 19th, 2009 | re: New Beck - "Harry Partch" (77 comments)

short answer: they were both dissed and my comment probably didn’t make a lot of sense

longer answer: Radiohead were the ones he attempted to diss at first, but at the end of the statement he included “Matt would have much preferred to insult Beck but he is too afraid of Scientologists”, so then Beck fired back with this song.. but, yeah, I did sort of misphrase that, I meant, have Arcade Fire at the end of the “would have much preferred to insult” end of the diss..

 0Posted on Nov 19th, 2009 | re: New Beck - "Harry Partch" (77 comments)

This is definitely the new BEST POSSIBLE OUTCOME OF A DISS (for 2009, at least).. more people need to make disses using the “yeah, you would make that pretentious song, oh wait you didn’t? well, at least ______ didn’t” formula. I hope someone makes one at Arcade Fire.. I really wanna hear a new song by them

0Posted on Nov 9th, 2009 | re: Owl City Pretty Much Admit Ripping Off Postal Service (253 comments)

I hate spreading negativity, but your last two sentences in your previous post on here made me throw up in my mouth a bit. “It’s not the musical main course. It’s the dessert.”? Really? I hope you’re joking… I was going to ignore it, but yeah… His music is neither “winsome” nor “whimsical”, I mean, I’m glad for the people who do enjoy his music as it does seem to be, if nothing else, harmless, although entirely unlistenable, but there is a major difference between whimsy and artificial happiness made to impress Radio Disney’s primary listening demographic.
also, “so many genres?” I only hear electronica

you forgot to subtract talent

0Posted on Nov 5th, 2009 | re: Owl City Pretty Much Admit Ripping Off Postal Service (253 comments)

calling this dude a Postal Service rip-off is giving him WAY WAY WAY more credit than he deserves… sure, he IS ripping them off, but rip-offs of something good are often listenable and Postal Service actually make music I love, but this doesn’t even deserve to be described as a rip-off. This song is the aural equivalent of the Octomom, Balloon Boy, or Jon and Kate Plus 8, I really genuinely don’t care and just want it to go away
