Yup!
Although I didn’t know much of his music, “Get Out Get Out Get Out” was one I had on a sad songs mix I always gave to friends. One of the others on the mix, “Expecting To Fly” by Buffalo Springfield, is one that could go after it, bringing you back out of Jason’s skin.
heavenly.
Same as CMJ on the east coast, people go there to see as many bands as possible, and have fun doing it. It’s no surprise that the sets are short, because there’s SO MUCH to do with only a so many days to do it.
Pablo Honey is kinda great for a couple reasons: 1, it’s production is still great. It’s big, full of reverb and searing guitars, although they wisely switched producers for subsequent albums; and 2. you can hear a lot of their influences in the songs – R.E.M. in “Anyone Can Play Guitar”, U2 in “You”, and Big Star in “Stop Whispering” (stay with me on this, I’m stretching for these), and happened to be good at emulating these bands, just with a big more attack and distortion. I’m sure there’s some Pixies in there too, but I can’t think of any examples as the moment.
Still too early to tell. This could sit in the right spot amongst the full album, almost like a palate cleanser.
I hear ya on the late period Black Flag, also a bunch of Jesus Lizard.
Great cover!

Not to mention the Strokes album.
