Beck was the first “real” artist I feel I ever listened to. Still love him. My first concert ever was in 6th grade seeing him on the Midnite Vultures’ tour. Amazing!
Anywho, can’t believe there’s not one Guero track–the album has held up so well over the years. Also, Modern Guilt is so so so underrated! I’m shocked at even today how often I revisit it..my top 10:
10. “End Of The Day” (Sea Change)
9. “Pay No Mind” (Mellow Gold)
8. “Emergency Exit” (Guero)
7. “Volcano” (Modern Guilt)
6. “Beautiful Way” (Midnite Vultures)
5. “Modern Guilt” (Modern Guilt)
4. “Lord Only Knows” (Odelay)
3. “The Golden Age” (Sea Change)
2. “Lazy Flies” (Mutations)
1. “Deadweight”
can’t believe no one has mentioned “Deadweight”!
This list is absolutely horrible. I understand shift trends in music, but come on how many fucking rap songs can we praise? I’ve always valued Pitchfork’s, and stil currently many other publications’, attention to music diversity..
Ok I’m really just pissed Rossen’s “Silent Song” isn’t even mentioned. Was there a better song released this year?? Zola Jesus “In Your Nature (Lynch Remix)”? The FUCKING Walkmen?
I appreciate most rap and R&B, but eeeekgads. “The Hours” (Beach House) anyone??
Have yet to see any love for Daniel Rossen’s solo EP on any publication’s list–wtf? It’s far superior to Grizzly Bear’s latest. He is the voice of this generation, imo.
Also shocked at how low/little love BLOOM is receiving. It’s the tits!
The Men — Open Your Heart.
Would say Daniel Rossen’s Silent Hour/Golden Mile EP is just a HAIR behind it! Love you, Daniel <3
love Group Transport Hall!
“Return To Hot Chicken” & “Superstar Watcher” -Yo La Tengo
“Agitation” -Erykah Badu
“Who Is It?” -Talking Heads (from The Name Of This Band Is Talking Heads)
“Breaking Glass” -Bowie
“Oil Birtan” -Bjork
“Calvary Scars” -Deerhunter
“Doe Dear” -Crystal Castles
