Well this is goddamn amazing. Cool how they kept the spirit of the song without doing a video of a girl falling in love woth an angel
i will say Under cover of darkness might be one of my favorite Strokes songs ever. I think I played that everyday for 6 months
There are only a few bands that I can count on in these crazy days , that no matter if the album is good or bad I will listen to it 50x and love it.
The Strokes –
YYY – maybe my most consistent band
Doves- please make another record
Radiohead – i listened to KOL so many times before seeing them for the 11th time in concert and finally realizing I don’t care for it much. Good rainy day album though
Silversun Pickups – yeah feel free to downvote..I can’t help it. I love them
Menomena – wish this band would blow up and make a lot of money
Arcade Fire- obvious but they have a flawless record…of making flawless records (see what I did there)
I agree with this technically but while the first 2 albums of Strokes and Kings of Leon were amazing the last 2 haven’t been terrible (Come Around Sundown is atrocious) While not masterpieces, and in the King’s case chasing that pop sound, these bands have been a lot about feeling to me. And their music still makes me FEEL a certain way. I think they are very comparable but I think The Strokes had less of a chip on their shoulder since they were big in the US initially so they are taking more chance. They didn’t all pay off on Angles but I still enjoy the album. Liking this one so far…
This is a grower actually. As in I thought it was awesome and 2 days and 15 listens later I am obsessed. I get excited when I hear a song I can pump with the windows down and at a stop light I can look over to the next car and be like “Fuck Yeah”
I wholeheartedly agree
oh FUCK YEAH
hmmm I prefer Blood for Poppies but I don’t hate this. I just want them to come out strong as I really adore me some garbage. not sure if this is their best bet for their first single in years
I dig it. It does feel a little more spacey then their other stuff but I think it could be a good evoloution for them
they are turning into the new Kings of Leon. but it is true I have no friends who like nickelback
Yeah this is a pretty great song. Sounds just like Garbage…now if No doubt can get their act together…
This is pretty baller.
true and true. but hey…..NO COLDPLAY!!!!
good list. i do like “intro” a bit more but the whole album is great.
seperator is a beautiful fucking song as well as codex. I think it suffered in opinions from being only 8 songs and for following in rainbows which was their 3rd masterpiece
I really like angles but I also really like this comment
I saw them at the Troubadour a couple of months ago and hadn’t heard any of their songs except for Peacebone and the Panda Bear cd. That show was electric. Small venue and great crowd. This show wasn’t as great for me. I really hate the Wiltern for some reason and don’t really ever love shows there. I was disappointed the crowd wasn’t more into it but I find Friday nights are the hardest night of the week for any kind of show. The audiences tend to be tired from a week of work.
I think the biggest problem was the order of songs. It started out strong but sort of lagged into slower material in the middle which deflated the energy. I don’t understand why they don’t play Peacebone either. I though that was one of their more popular songs. Still a great group and lots of fun. Passion Pit was better on Thursday though, maybe it the Troubadour

I kinda strongly disagree guys. First of all, all YYY albums need time to sink in so that the “new direction” can be fully appreciated. Upon first listen it is in line with the quality of the others. I have my favorites Sacrilege, Area 52, Despair, Wedding Song and then the others will grow I’m sure. I don’t dislike any song which is pretty typical for how I feel about their albums. I am really feeling it. This band is too good and too creative to make a bad album. They aren’t like The Strokes (whom I love) who seem to be chasing the accolades of the indie music masses. They make and have always made music that is interesting to them and I think that is why I personally gravitate towards them and while I continue to respect and admire them.
