wish I was, but totally not into this. The panda track is great though. It feels sort of like i’m at a science fair, and learning, rather than enjoying. Wouldn’t say it’s terrible, just not particularly engaging or exciting.

I love Phoenix, but I’m having a hard time getting into this song. The weird guitar intro, and the chorus for me are the weak points. Verses are nice and phoenixy enough. Generally speaking, doesn’t stand up to almost anything from their last album. Bummer…(pretty cheesy too, not in a fun way)

Really like it, but it seems truncated and abruptly ends. Wish his songs were fleshed out a bit more.

this one really wasn’t funny

my favorite top 20 I’ve seen

It’s no longer ‘cool’ to like grizzly bear despite the fact they consistently put out interesting and fresh music that in my opinion really grows on you. As a result, many of these critics are very aware of one another’s EOY lists and want to make clear they are on the Frank Ocean/Kendrick cool train, and Tame trend….hence bands like Dirty Projectors, GB, Beach House, not taking higher spots….and Grimes ranking higher than all of them, despite the fact that her song writing other than the singles is pretty much at demo tapes level. It’s a hive mind mentality thing, and people like to go with the trends. You’ll see it at almost every publication, except say Rolling Stone…..the male dominated music critic world is pretty incestuous and they enjoy their circle jerks every year.

hard to love, easy to admire

with you, but i hate the hive mind mentality of music critics.

japandroids suck

hmmmm, I think it’s a little flavor of the moment. Lyrically doesn’t do much, also the end peters out into jam band territory. Still put it in my top 3 of the year, but as far as ‘remembered as best of the decade’ I don’t think so.

i meant the reader’s top 20

Glad they put Tame Impala and Grizzly Bear in the top 10, as well as Beach House, although my order would be different. I prefer Stereogum’s top 20 tbh

I wish every band had a sense of humor like these guys or at the very least would release a smooth jazz video of their latest album. I’ll take it over the ‘deluxxe’ repacked version any day

I predict some surprises in the top 10 for Pfork. I don’t think Grizzly Bear will make it despite their high rating and despite the fact I think it’s def top 3 (for me) b/c I think it’s become in fashion (within critic world) to sort of dismiss them, even though I think Shields is far more interesting and exciting than Veckatimest. Doubt Beach House and Dirty Projectors will make it for similar reasons. Some more obscure minimal stuff I haven’t listened to will probably fill the top 10 with Tame Impala, Frank, Kendrick, Japandroids….Swans? Godspeed? I predict a lot of albums that will rank much higher in the READER’s poll, will end up in the teens or 20s. I’m guessing Andy Stott will be in there….and as of a few weeks ago I would have said “now way’ to grimes, but I Guess people really do think her album is ‘great’ even tho I think it’s based off of just a few great songs….Then again what do I know.

Haven’t shared it, but since people are doing it my top 10 would be

1. Grizzly Bear
2. Tame Impala
3. Frank Ocean
4. Beach House
5. Bat for Lashes
6. Dirty Projectors
7. Miguel
8. Here We Go Magic
9. Fiona Apple
10. Sharon Van Etten

video is a bit of a schtick but the song is brilliant

Tiny Mix Tapes are sort of the worst. I sometimes wonder if anyone but their own staff even reads it. I skim it about 3 X a year at this point b/c they just write about the stupidest shit. They try to be funny with their news too and at this point it’s just sort of pathetic.

 +2Posted on Dec 18th, 2012 | re: Pitchfork's Top 100 Tracks Of 2012 (234 comments)

I prefer Stereogum’s reader’s top 20 tracks to this shit to be honest.

ps. why the fuck wasn’t Chris Bear #1?

+3Posted on Dec 13th, 2012 | re: The Gummy Awards: Your Top 20 Indie Rock Crushes Of 2012 (198 comments)

their vote probably got split! ANGEL! (even tho she is gone! #1 DP babe)

0Posted on Dec 13th, 2012 | re: The Gummy Awards: Your Top 20 Indie Rock Crushes Of 2012 (198 comments)

only the gay guys in the top 10 guys are actually attractive, Perfume, Ed, Sufjan and Frank, the rest look REAL bad, unless those are just bad shots. Ty Segall? Whoa….

Annie is #1 but I think Victoria should usurp her eventually b/c Victoria has Sex Appeal, whereas Annie is just beautiful but robotic

if you like a band, buy their record, go to shows, get some merch.
