2008 Juno Award Nominations

2008 Juno Award Nominations

And Feist is clearing off mantle space for the hardware. It's pretty much the Leslie and Avril Lavigne show in the just announced nomination list, although we are pulling hard for Wintersleep in the Best New Artist category. Our source for the info is the awesomely domain-named canada.com. (Wherever else would you go for your Juno news?)

Although I am a Canadian, I don't normally watch the Junos (which somehow find a way to nominate Michael Buble, Avril Lavigne and Nelly Furtado every single year) but I just might have to this year to see if Holy Fuck wins the alternative award. I'd love to see how the announcers are going to get around that one.

Wintersleep is probably alright, I don't know. Wintersox is the best though.

The Junos are worse than the Grammys. They're both crap and pathetic, but the Junos are just so much more pathetic.

Coming from a Canadian, btw.

Belly best new artist? Fucking hell. I come from his home city, and if I hear another goddamn reference to him being Ottawa's only cultural export I'm gonna puke (HOW ABOUT THE ACORN, GUYS.)

The Junos are a joke, as usual. A couple pleasant surprises (Holy Fuck!!) but the usual slew of garbage. With such a rich culture of indie music, with a ton of good stuff coming out last year, the nominees are absolutely revolting.

as a canadian i can say the junos suck. however, nelly furtado (even though her music sucks) did a good job hosting last year. russell peters is hosting this year's junos, and i hope he tells some good jokes.

It always struck me a little weird wintersleep was never mentioned on this site before, they are great.

best new artist is a funny nomination for a band that has three great albums.

I think this is my favorite Juno article ever. Last year more people watched "Miss Marple" (a TV show that my grandmother might watch) than the Junos, proving that nobody really gives a shit about the awards.

I would like to see Natalie Ramsay (www.NatalieRamsay.com) at the Junos someday. She's new, completely unheard of in the west even though she lives here, but doing well in other parts of the world.

I agree with the comment about Natalie Ramsay. She should be nominated for a Juno. She's a young up-and-comer, with an incredible voice. The Juno's have been criticized and boycotted, because they don't support up-and-coming artists very well. People enjoy seeing new artists. So shows like Canadian Idol are filling the void and grabbing way larger audiences. Take a listen on Natalie's site: natalieramsay.com

Natalie is very popular here in the Philippines. Many people love her songs. Ang pinaka gusto ko ay Take My Hand Forever Hold. Maraming salamat po!
