Bon Iver Is Humble
And awesome. If you haven't had the great fortune of seeing man-of-the-earth Bon Iver live, this session with MPR's The Current will help you understand why Justin Vernon ranked so highly amongst our favorite live acts of 2007. There's an overarching sense of genuine humility about him as he talks a bit about the origin of the Bon Iver pseudonym and what it means ("the good winter"); the process of recording his wintry meditation For Emma, Forever Ago, and vocal touchstones (black gospel and Appalachian folk), all in between stints sending shivers via "Flume," "For Emma," and the majestic "Lump Sum." We were just spinning For Emma for a jaw-dropped newcomer last night, so good timing, here. Friend, expect an email.

I live in Minnesota and didn't realize he hit the Current before playing the beautiful sold-out show I saw this week. Thanks for the linkage.
P.S. It's Minnesota Public Radio, not Minneapolis. To be clear, MPR's headquarters are in St. Paul, just like Bon Iver's show that night. Gotta give the S.P. some props.
