By Golly, Winehouse Won't Play Grammys After All

Amy Winehouse's Visa was denied. Again. So no Grammys for her this Sunday. Is anyone beginning to think that maybe Amy Winehouse is not very dependable? The singer cancelled shows (including gigs with the Rolling Stones, and a headline spot at the V Festival) in August. She cancelled apperances at the VMAs in September and the Woodie Awards in November. She scrapped a European tour in December. How about promoters stop booking her? She's just gonna cancel, and then you'll have to replace her with Rilo Kiley. Psst, Mark Ronson: it was gonna be boring anyway. (UPDATE: Hallejulah, etc.)

Well, I think she's a mess, albeit a compelling one, but it's a bit unwarranted to suggest that failing to get a visa that she did, in fact, do her best to get is part of the unreliability trend, don't you think?

Clearly our government relenting and giving Snoop Dogg his UK working visa didn't count as quid pro quo.

Um, sorry Mick, but the Grammys still have Rihanna with Morris Day and the Time. Which would upstage Winehouse on her best day.

She also canceled at last year's Austin City Limits (along with the White Stripes and Rodrigo y Gabriela)

can someone explain the UK drug laws to me? Her being denied an American Visa seems like the only real punishment she's received for being a known junkie and caught with drugs. What's next? Doherty is going to receive community service for littering?

While Winehouse is notorious for canceling her scheduled shows, I don't feel that her Visa denial really falls in the same category as the others. Besides, now she's found a workaround and isn't canceling after all - performing via satellite.

Quit Your Day Job: Megafaun

Raleigh-via-Eau Clair BTW Megafaun debuted impressively earlier this year with Bury The Square. The trio nip-and-tuck experimental tendencies (tape splicing, white noise colliding with banjo, junkyard-laced spring reverb, screeching feedback at the tail end of a quiet back porch lament)...
