New B-52's - "Funplex"

Athens' greatest party band are back with Funplex, their first album since 1992's Good Stuff. (We're guessing a "Funplex" is similar to the "Love Shack," only less famous.) The album's out 3/25 on Astralwerks, but you can purchase the eponymous single over at iTunes. If you're truly curious, you'll have to shell out the .99 -- the little sample's really lacking in the Fred Schneider department. Where's my umbrella, indeed.

Oh man, it's not going to be as good as the self titled album, but it is nice to hear from them again.

I thought R.E.M. was Athens's greatest party band. Oh, wait, that should read "oldest-farty" band. Just kidding. I still have a soft spot for ol' Stipe and the boys.

16 years? Huh, and I thought Portishead had taken a long time...

This single finds the band back in fine form. It's silly to expect a repeat of their first album because it's not the 80's anymore and they've really updated their sound. Funplex is wild and fun and makes you smile. The lyrics are funny bringing to mind a cast of crazy characters roaming around a southern shopping mall. There's even a little nod to Jerry Lewis "hey lady". The B-52's are back!
