New (Most Of) Pearl Jam - "Rock Around Barack"

Breaking news: A rock band wants Obama for president. This time it's Bonnaroo-bound Pearl Jam, who have eschewed the live rally route in favor of a touched-up cover of an old rock classic. Stone Gossard picks up vocal duties from an abstaining EdVed and explains: "'Rock Around The Clock' was the first mainstream rock and roll hit in 1955 and it had a transforming effect on American music ... The rhythm of rock music and its energy were so overwhelming that traditional barriers of race and culture broke down with an enormous crash. So here's to new energy, rock and the breaking down of cultural barriers: Barack Around The Clock!" Listen here (MP4).

Ugh, why? Eddie Vedder was smart to stay away from this.

"The rhythm of rock music and its energy were so overwhelming that traditional barriers of race and culture broke down with an enormous crash."
So Bill Haley or whoever recorded Rock around the Clock and we all lived happily ever after. Stone Gossard would make a great history teacher

I thought Eddie Vedder was a Nader supporter? Clearly he's not smart enough to realize that Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are literally policy to policy, the same beast.

What a traitor.

Hey John,

Actually, they're not the same policy to policy ... but thanks for your astute political observations.

Eddie didn't actually take part in this song. It was the other members of Pearl Jam. It even says it in the post.

Well there's a surprise: A band that wrote a hit song called "Black" supports Barack! All kidding aside, this was predictable and I wouldn't be surprised if you hear some PJ songs blasting in the speakers at Obama's campaign rallies now. Hillary had Tom Petty's "American Girl," John Edwards had Springsteen's "The Rising," so why not have a younger (comparatively speaking) rock band's music supporting the younger (comparatively speaking) presidential contender.

To Chuck: What does the song Black got to do Barack? Ever read the lyrics?

To DG, Dave, John, Hefe, ... : Time to sell your Peal Jam collection eh? I wonder how many bands/artists you like prefer the Democrats. Probably most if not all.

I just meant the song sucks.. I didn't say anything about their politics. Take it easy there.

Because people with brains should just follow rock stars blindly and do everything they say.

Don't these people realize that most people do the opposite?? If Hollywood likes someone that is a clear sign that we should all stay away.

Liberals are so selfish.
