No Bids Yet On World's Greatest Music Collection
If you have a reliable internet connection you've probably heard by now: Paul Mawhinney owns and is selling 3 million records and 300,000 CDs, which include over 6 million songs. That's right, his collection's bigger than your collection, wimp. As the eBay note states, "It's the undisputed largest collection of recorded music in the world. About half of the recordings are new and never played, and every genre of 20th century music is represented ... The estimated value of this amazing collection is more than $50 million." Bidding opens at $3,000,000.00, though so far nobody's bitten. Cheapskates. (Question to Paul: Does "every genre" include Christian grindcore? If so, we might make an offer.)

I like how underneath the minimum $3,000,000 bid is an offer to save ten bucks with the new eBay card.

Ha. I bet my music collection is better than his. It's quality, not quantity.
Posted by: Thelonious at February 21, 2008 12:07 AM | ReplyPlus I don't have rock, metal, indie, crap, etc. like his probably does.

@ derek:
Not to be nitpicky, but the bands you named are a little more on the hardcore/metalcore side of things. I remember back in the day, though, there was a Christian grindcore band called Vomitorial Corpulence.

Somebody bought it today. The final bid is $3,002,150 and the buyer's name is 'jopsoup'from Ireland according to his information. It doesn't seem like he got into much of a bidding war...lucky guy.

@Chris S.
Good catch on the Vomitorial Corpulence.
I was never good at distinguishing betwixt hardcore subgenres. But I thought that Unashamed was grindcore. I'll have to go back and check my old Tooth and Nail catalogue.
