I graduate from college the week before SXSW, saw this post and got the idea to drive out to Austin for this and just became so bummed when I saw it costs 600 dollars for the music event :(

It costs $150-175 if you can get a wristband. But those are usually only sold to Austin locals. But even if you have a wristband or badge ($600) your odds of getting into Stubb's for REM is near impossible unless you queue about 5 hours in advance.
Last year Bloc Party played at Stubbs and ppl were waiting in line 2-3 hours in advance. I had a badge and there was no way in hell I could have got into the venue as I arrived an hour before the show.
