R.I.P. UNKLE

R.I.P. UNKLE

Looks like War Stories was the last round for Lavelle and File: "After 10 years as musical collaborators in UNKLE, James Lavelle and Richard File are going their separate ways -- a decision that is mutual and amicable. Rich will be concentrating on his new band We Fell To Earth, who are currently in the studio working on their debut album." (via)

This just means Lavelle will put out another UNKLE record with some other collaborator, no?

unkle isn't done... it hasn't been confirmed, but pablo clements from the psychonauts is basically james' new 2nd in command taking over for rich. unkle might even be more than just james and pablo though, because when pablo posted on the unkle77 board he was sort of cryptic when it came to how many members unkle now has.

Sorry James, Never Never Land was OK compared to Psyence Fiction but that last record had exactly one good song on it and that was only because you found someone who sounds the way Bjork used to sound.

I didn't even know these guys were still around. I bought Psyence Fiction in 1998 and haven't thought about this band since about 2000.

I didn't even know about this until I saw it on here! Apparently there's been an announcement up on their site for a few weeks. Damn, UNKLE was a great project.

UNKLE was an o.k project in many ways but in faded seriously into insignificance after a while. It's still stuck in that 1998 timewarp or trip hop and pre-millenial tension.
It was cool at the time but definately now time for something new.

Quit Your Day Job: Megafaun

Raleigh-via-Eau Clair BTW Megafaun debuted impressively earlier this year with Bury The Square. The trio nip-and-tuck experimental tendencies (tape splicing, white noise colliding with banjo, junkyard-laced spring reverb, screeching feedback at the tail end of a quiet back porch lament)...

Premature Evaluation: of Montreal - Skeletal Lamping

Skeletal Lamping is anything but skeletal. When we took a close listen to album closer "Id Engager" we mentioned it wasn't the strangest, most ambitious, or best tune on of Montreal's new one, but after absorbing the other 14 tracks,...

Horse Feathers - "Father"

Portland songwriter Justin Ringle's evocative vocal twang and sharp lyricism are at the center of Horse Feathers' bedroom Americana. The band's second album House With No Home, which follows 2006's Words Are Dead, finds Ringle's vision fleshed out by multi-instrumentalist/composer...
