Should You Watch The Grammys?

Should You Watch The Grammys?

It's a dilemma every year. If the lure of a Winehouse-via-satellite performance or Beyoncé/Tina Turner duet doesn't make this a slam dunk for you, Vulture's got a flow chart that'll help you choose. SPOILER: All roads lead to "Don't watch." But getting there's half the fun.

NOTE: Should you decide that, yes, your threshold for depression via a closeup look at an industry applauding itself while it literally self destructs is high enough to actually tune in on Sunday, know that Stereogum will be liveblogging the shitshow. So if you are watching, log on and commiserate with us!

May I suggest Stereogummers utilize their DVR for the Grammy Awards if they have it... worked for the AMA's. Not so great for instantaneous viewing obviously, but it beats wasting time.

the grammys would be quite a show if the music industry literally self destructed during the broadcast.

Maybe if it was being held in a back alley in williamsburg where i could silmantaneously jerk off David Byrne which sticking in Regine Chassagnes pooper I would. But since the grammys are so fucking maintstream, I think ill just pass.

The Brits in england is kind of the same... however. Word on the street is a special duet is happening. Although i'm not allowed to give them game away just yet. But keep your eyes peeled (it involves an amazing band....)!!
Shhhh!

"The Brits in england is kind of the same..."

Except with Editors, Arctic Monkeys, and Kings of Leon nominated for major awards instead of Buble, Paul McCartney, Fergie, Bon Jovi, etc etc etc

Sorry, but between Kanye West, The Beatles' LOVE & Across The Universe segmant, Feist, and Amy Winehouse's supposed satellite performance, I wouldn't miss this year's Grammy's for the world.

May change the channel during Carrie Underwood and Kid Rock, though.

No, fair enough, i agree. The Brits is a bit better, but it has its fair share of rubbish. And some of those bands you've mentioned are, over here, considered just as boring and establishment as many pop bands. Groups like Girls aloud (reality tv girl band) are somehow more cool than the editors amongst many people. Bad times.
Still seriously, keep your eyes out for my mentioned duet ;)

Quit Your Day Job: Megafaun

Raleigh-via-Eau Clair BTW Megafaun debuted impressively earlier this year with Bury The Square. The trio nip-and-tuck experimental tendencies (tape splicing, white noise colliding with banjo, junkyard-laced spring reverb, screeching feedback at the tail end of a quiet back porch lament)...
