The Dark Knight was so good, it's weird that no one blogged it about and it didn't make any money. Somehow it topped our readers' list of the best films of the year ... by a lot. In second place was WALL-E, the heartwarming tale of a trash robot and his iPod. That was also pretty underground, maybe you can find it on Netflix. Art house flicks Slumdog Millionaire (#7) and Rachel Getting Married (#10) aren't in wide release yet, but those of you who saw them really loved them. Especially Lindsay. Apatow Gang production Forgetting Sarah Marshall also fared well, which is what you'd expect from readers of The Internet's #1 Source For Grainy Pictures Of The Crotch Area Of The Thespian Known As Jason Segel™ (NSFW). Finally, Twilight scored negative votes -- we don't even know how that's possible.

haha, so it looks like stereogum readers are generally not hipsters anymore. cool, it's nice to see the stereotype dying :)
Score = -3
Or because, The Dark Knight was just so fucking amazing.
Score = 14
Stereogum readers are generally douchebags.
Score = 4
Milk was out when this list was made? Oh.
Decent list. I truly didn't think people would be able to come up with 10 decent movies from this year.
Score = 4
I've been searching since its release for another person that disliked Iron Man. Other person, are you out there?
Score = -3
i thought it was just okay. does that count. it wouldnt be in my top 20 for the year and i only saw like 7 movies. that doesn't make sense, but i think everyone knows what i mean.
Score = 1
I am here. I hated iron man. It was terrible. I really don't understand super hero movies.
Other than the dark knight of course.
Batman's cool with me.
Score = 0
me. it sucked. : )
Score = 0
I think you're missing out on the importance of RGM's indie cred from Tunde.
Score = 2
vicki christina barcelona was pretty awesome. surprised not to see it here.
Score = -1
No Frost/Nixon?
Eh, The Dark Knight at #1 is totally...correct.
Score = 3
the house bunny shoulda been #1 by far....
Score = 4
I voted for In Bruges.
Score = 5
Great Movie. How could anyone say no to midgets?
Score = 3
Indeed. It also happens to be Colin Farrell's best performance to date.
Score = 4
colin farrell does happen to suck on a regular basis but In Bruges was a great movie and should have been on the list. i am yet to se synecdoche new york or slumdog millionare and am excited about both.
Score = 3
I agree with the majority of this list but Rachel Getting Married was not a very good movie in my opinion. Anne Hathaway was brilliant and it was refreshing to see her in a drugged up rehab role, but other than that it was just way too long.
oh and Frost/Nixon definitely isn't out yet, although it looks to be quite brilliant.
Score = -3
MILK HAS BEEN OUT FOR LIKE, FIVE DAYS!
I'm surprised no one voted for Benjamin Button..
Score = 2
I loved Synechdoche, NY. If you did not catch it, you should.
Score = 1
I can't believe 10 good movies came out this year. Burn After Reading? Seriously? I thought that movie was garbage and I typically love the Coen Bros. I must be the only one who didn't get it. Milk wasn't even out when the voting took place was it? Changeling was terrific but maybe nobody saw it, and Tropic Thunder was way funnier than Pineapple Express, but I guess it didn't feature an MIA jam in the credits.
Score = 0
i totally agree, that movie was horrifically, shockingly bad. it really had zero redeeeming qualities
Score = 0
Burn After Reading actually made me angry. I went in with no expectations and came out really angry that I didn't leave the movie without SOMETHING to care about in the flick. Like what, was I supposed to be amazed that George Clooney was in the same room as a dildo chair? Also, that's the only thing I remembered...the dildo chair - the rest a blur.
Score = 1
In Bruges, top film
Score = 2
That's what I voted for.
Score = 1
How the fuck did Wall-E not win? That's blasphemy.
Score = 1
How the hell do you love Batman but hate on Iron Man? It's the same goddamn idea: no superpowers, just a rich guy with cool gadgets and a badass suit who beats the crap out of supervillians. Not to mention that Robert Downey Jr is never not awesome.
And In Bruges really was fantastic
Score = -5
So, uh, just me who thinks 1 and 2 are the wrong way round?
Score = 1
no, i agree. i'm sick of people jacking off all over heath ledger.
Score = -3
Does Burn After Reading even make this if it was done by anyone other than the Coens? That movie was almost as bad as Heartbreakers.
Score = -1
U2 in 3D. SERIOUSLY.
Score = 2
Ironman sucked.
Score = 0
Dark Knight and Wall-E, sure. But Hellboy 2 deserves a spot in the Top 10.
Score = -1
Sorry, but you people who think Wall-E was the best movie of the year need to grow the fuck up. It's a fucking CARTOON. I don't know where all you pseudo-adult man-children came from, but seriously, get a proper education, move out of your parent's basements and do something off your computers once in a while.
Score = -9
Damn dude, did cartoons rape your mom or something?
Score = 5
i almost was kicked out of a screening for Pineapple Express because my friend and i were laughing SO MUCH and were so loud.
forgetting sarah marshall was also great.
i want to see Milk so badly!!!
Score = -1
an absolutely SUPERB list. i have no objections here, surprisingly.
Score = 0
Doubt? Brideshead Revisited? Vicky Christina Barcelona? Frost/Nixon? The Fall? I'm disappointed. I guess I can't complain because I didn't vote.
Score = 0
What about Il y a longtemps que je t'aime and Waltz With Bashir? Not only the best movies of 2008, but also some of the best movies I've ever seen. Simply incredible.
