This is the year of Tina Fey, so it's no surprise that 30 Rock topped the first ever Best TV Show category. And with The Office in the #2 spot, Thursday must be your favorite night for television. The highest charting non-comedy is LOST, which remains great even though we think the show's writers are as confused as we are. People found some historical inaccuracies in Mad Men, but that's only because they cared enough to obsessively analyze it. The Wire was captivating in its finale season (we'll miss you McNulty) and Gossip Girl is a genius. No reality shows here, but on the satirical news front The Daily Show With Jon Stewart (#10) beat out counterpart The Colbert Report. True Blood and Entourage were not far out of the top ten even though they are terrible.

Good list, especially nice to see Mad Men. Hopefully, Friday Night Lights will be No. 1 in 2009, because season 3 fucking kills it.
Score = 1
Hmm, pretty great list except for Gossip Girl and House. Those two can just be swapped in my mind with Colbert and Pushing Daisies (R.I.P.) or something.
Score = -4
Oh yeah, forgot about Friday Night Lights, this season has definitely been fantastic.
Score = 1
I don't give two shits if it's not quite as funny as it once was, South Park should really always be in the top 10.
Score = 3
good to finally see that someone else hates entourage. i live in a frat house...and i think out of 25 guys I am the only one who hates it. although to their credit, most of them do like Arrested Development...which is always a plus.
Score = 5
I voted for Attack of the Show. lol.
Score = 2
Anybody heard of The Shield??? This season might have been the best in the history of TV.
Score = -1
Anybody heard of The Shield??? This season might have been the best in the history of TV.
Score = -3
Agree.
I also have to say that Sunny and House haven't been deserving of placing so high up this year.
Score = 2
Colbert should have tied with the Daily Show.
But glad to see that Dexter is finally getting the recognition it deserves.
Score = 3
Why didn't anyone besides me vote for Skins?! That show is the best and is so much better than Gossop Gits (ugh!).
Score = -2
Testees should be on this list.
Score = -9
House? House???? Fucking House???! Holy shit, that must be a joke.
Score = -7
you must be a fucking joke.
joke.
Score = 5
Good list. I'd go...
1. The Wire
2. Lost
3. 30 Rock
4. Dexter
5. Pushing Daisies
Score = 1
gotta love how heroes is not even in the top 10
Score = 3
Californication????
Score = 3
Pushing Daisies really should have made it on this list.
Score = 6
you guys own tv sets??
Score = 2
Countdown with Keith Olbermann. Best TV show on the air these days (behind Lost).
Score = -3
Agreed. I'm glad someone else likes Countdown. But really, Mad Med should be number one! And the Colbert Report should be on the list. Did anyone see "Operation Humble Kanye"? Funniest thing on TV.
Score = -1
Hell yeah Gossip Girl! I was for sure convinced I was the only Stereogummer to vote for it, but I'm glad that's not the case!! :D
Don't hate if you haven't watched it; it's really, really good.
Score = 2
Gossip Girl and no Colbert Report or Flight of the Conchords??!?!?!?! WHAT?!?!
Oh wait, I just remembered how much Videogum gargles my balls.
Score = -2
Where the FUCK is flight of the conchords?!?
Score = 3
Weeds was so good this season you guys
Score = 2
30 Rock is the best, but I wish Pushing Daisies was on the list!
Score = 5
I'm pretty bummed The Wire is done. That was my pick for #1. The 5 seasons as a whole go down as the best television series ever created for me. It is a shame more people didn't watch it. Do yourself a favor, begin with season 1 and watch all the seasons in order. You can't really do it any other way. I'm glad my friend convinced me to do so. 30 Rock is my second favorite, so it is good to see it take #1 none the less.
Score = 0
If Pushing Daisies was so awesome, why was it canceled? Mind you, I never saw the show. But, WTF? Gossip Girls?! What is wrong with you people? I can tolerate the others, like House...but GG? My, oh my.
Score = -6
Weeds should be in there, as well as How I met your mother. replace gossip girl and house with those.
Score = 0
How I Met Your Mother, Attack of the Show
Score = -1
No Battlestar Gallactica love?
Score = 0
I am pleased to see GG make the list.
Score = 3
Always Sunny is and has been the funniest show on TV.
Score = 0
Does anyone watch celebrity rehab? That show is really good and sometimes really funny but you feel bad about laughing.
Score = 0
Personally I don't watch it, but anything starring Gary Busey can't be that bad, right?? RIGHT??

Haha, True Blood really was terrible, yet I still watched every single episode. So did all of my friends. We all agree it's a mystery.
Score = 0
Glad to see 30 Rock top the list, that show is seriously underrated in most circles. And seeing Gossip Girl on the list is a pleasant surprise. I never thought I would, but I love it.
Score = 1
the wire, californication, dexter, mad men, life and times of tim
so mad the wire is over with, best show, most unique show on television since it came on. i wish more people watched life and times of tim, it is a new hilarious, intelligent animated show (i think of it as the animated equivalent of curb your enthusiasm but with 'boldness' replaced with feebleness.
Score = 0
House has really gone downhill the past two years to the point that it is almost unbearable; and Lost will always be awful and confusing (in my mind it's worse than True Blood) - but I agree with the others. Well, except Gossip Girl - but I understand why it's entertaining.

um what about flight of the conchords? and what is up with GG??? seriously? true blood or californication should be in the place of GG or even attack of the show!!!!
lame....
at least dexter, lost and mad men all made the list....
Score = 0
I wish "Always Sunny" had been at number 1, or at least beaten "30 Rock," because I definitely think it's funnier.
Also, I am extremely dissappointed that "The Colbert Report" didn't make it and "The Daily Show" did. I find Colbert to be at least like 200 times funnier than Jon Stewart, who to me seems to be an obnoxious, more-overtly partisan shill.
(Not that I don't share Steward and Colbert's views, but I think Colbert is much better at simply going for good laughs rather than partisan jabs.)
