Takka Takka Cover Phil Collins

The second installment of Guilt By Association comes out in February. In case you don't remember Vol. 1, the compilation featured contemporary indie bands covering so-called "guilty pleasures." Of course, the problem with these sorts of things is that the...  CONTINUE READING TAKKA TAKKA COVER PHIL COLLINS »

Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel Duet For Obama

Last night NYC's Hammerstein Ballroom hosted a "Change Rocks" fundraiser for Obama, featuring Class of '99 Rock Hall inductees the Boss and the Piano Man. Some tickets were priced at $25,000 each (preempting the World Series isn't cheap). Springsteen has...  CONTINUE READING BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, BILLY JOEL DUET FOR OBAMA»

What Made Milwaukee Famous Cover Billy Joel

Chuck Klosterman claims that Glasses Houses is the best Billy Joel album, and that Billy Joel has never been cool. He's wrong on the first count (it's the second best), but we can't dispute the coolness issue (much as we...  CONTINUE READING WHAT MADE MILWAUKEE FAMOUS COVER BILLY JOEL»

New Japan For Africa Video - "We Are The World"

"We Are The World" is in the air. We caught a pretty good whiff of it with Jimmy and Ben, but this footage from Japanese television takes USA For Africa to the next level. In fact, the footage you're about...  CONTINUE READING NEW JAPAN FOR AFRICA VIDEO - "WE ARE THE WORLD"»

Lou Reed, Justin Timberlake & Tom Hanks To Help Rock 'N' Roll Congratulate Itself

Good news, gang: now the list of people you didn't give a shit about getting into the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame has a slightly less give-a-shittable list of people inducting them! Billy Joel To Close Out Shea Stadium

Two of us grew up in Nassau county, where childhood trips to Shea and memorization of every word of BJ's catalogue are the quickest way to assimilation (particularly if you, say, are picked on for your dark skin, funny name, and dad's turban). So we imagine a pretty massive contingent of the people we gleefully lost touch with two decades ago will be at "The Last Play at Shea, From the Beatles to Billy" concert on July 16th, indeed the last music event from the closing orange-and-blue architectural monstrosity. And if you wanna know Scott's whereabouts that night, we're guessing he'll be front row. Strong Island reprezent.

Billy Joel Celebrates "Christmas In Fallujah"

Billboard brings forth the good cheer of Billy Joel's return from self-imposed pop retirement with a second single this year. And he's still got war on his mind. The track's called "Christmas In Fallujah," and it's highly unfortunate. This coming...  CONTINUE READING BILLY JOEL CELEBRATES "CHRISTMAS IN FALLUJAH"»

What If The "Piano Man" Was An Unreliable Narrator?

From where does John Moe unearth these revelatory letters? We enjoyed "Beth"'s nagging epistle to Peter Criss, but this one is even closer to our hearts: Moe's latest Pop Song Correspondence is titled A Note Placed In The Pay Envelope...  CONTINUE READING WHAT IF THE "PIANO MAN" WAS AN UNRELIABLE NARRATOR?»

I Know Way Too Much About Billy Joel

Albeit deserved, the tarnishing of Billy Joel's legacy makes Stereogum sad. Growing up as a young Strong Island blogger in the '80s, I had no choice but to love the Piano Man, especially because my parents were making me take...  CONTINUE READING I KNOW WAY TOO MUCH ABOUT BILLY JOEL»
