New Bodies Of Water Video - "Under The Pines"

When we posted about L.A. prog-gospel crew Bodies Of Water's "Under The Pines," we mentioned that at least in name, the song reminded some of us (me) of old-time Siltbreezers the Strapping Fieldhands' In The Pineys EP. The video, written...  CONTINUE READING NEW BODIES OF WATER VIDEO - "UNDER THE PINES"»

Bodies Of Water Do Daytrotter

Los Angeles indie-gospel act Bodies Of Water's sophomore album A Certain Feeling is out next week. We've already heard its "Under The Pines," and when the quartet stopped by Daytrotter they offered up more: "Even In A Cave" and Certain's...  CONTINUE READING BODIES OF WATER DO DAYTROTTER»

New Bodies Of Water - "Under The Pines"

Back in the day, Siltbreeze released Philly crew Strapping Fieldhands awesome In The Pineys EP. The new track from Bodies Of Water places the listener in the pines, too, which immediately conjured the older platter, though BoW bring a West...  CONTINUE READING NEW BODIES OF WATER - "UNDER THE PINES"»

Bodies Of Water Hate Your Favorite Band

Best way for a blog-buzzed band to alienate as many music fans as possible? Write on your website "I can't understand why anyone likes these musical groups and singers: Wilco, Jeff Buckley, Elvis Costello, The Police, Slint, Rush, Joni Mitchell, Steely Dan, Afghan Whigs. Perhaps you are offended by this. If so, I feel glad. You need to be shaken up. You need to have whatever skewed values you've cultivated over the years CHALLENGED. Listen again to this stuff - you will see that it is junk." The original post has since been deleted, demonstrating either a return to senses, or having sobered up. We're betting it was a little bit of both.

Everybody Covers Everybody Hurts

Thought we'd end our Automatic For The People tribute run with a bang. In Matthew's eloquent essay, he wrote "a majority [of the Drive XV artists are] young enough that their earliest exposure to the [Automatic] songs came during their...  CONTINUE READING EVERYBODY COVERS EVERYBODY HURTS»

New Bodies Of Water - "It Is Familiar"

Los Angeles golden-tongued indie-gospel quartet Bodies Of Water make us want to see Hair while alternating between ABBA and the Sufjan team on an iPod. Or something. "It Is Familiar" possesses a dramatic, made-for-the-stage, windswept lilt as well as some...  CONTINUE READING NEW BODIES OF WATER - "IT IS FAMILIAR"»
