Radiohead, Lil Wayne Nominated For Album Of The Year Grammy

Remember the 50th Annual Grammy Awards? Alicia Keys duetting with the ghost of Sinatra? Will.i.am rapping nonsense? Album of the Year River: The Joni Letters??? It's easy (and fun!) to make fun of the Grammys, but last year they really...  CONTINUE READING RADIOHEAD, LIL WAYNE NOMINATED FOR ALBUM OF THE YEAR GRAMMY»

New Gnarls Barkley Video - "Mystery Man"

The official video for Gnarls's new single, the backbeat/soul collage "Mystery Man," matches the song's overall cut-paste, drafted, b-side vibe with some lo-fi, simply drawn, sketched on animation. Danger Mouse and a skinny Cee-Lo appear briefly on a rooftop, but...  CONTINUE READING NEW GNARLS BARKLEY VIDEO - "MYSTERY MAN"»

New Gnarls Barkley - "Mystery Man" (Stereogum Premiere)

Packed into that set of "Who's Gonna Save My Soul" demos and alternate takes is this unreleased Gnarls tune "Mystery Man." It's a b-side collage stitched of a couple sketches -- Cee-Lo soulfully straining to a fat keyboard-and-backbeat vamp, bookended...  CONTINUE READING NEW GNARLS BARKLEY - "MYSTERY MAN" (STEREOGUM PREMIERE)»

Gnarls Barkley Share "Soul" MP3s, Vids

No track from The Odd Couple's had quite the ride of "Who's Gonna Save My Soul," but then no track from that album is quite as affecting. It started when Cee-Lo and Danger were getting themseves in gear for the...  CONTINUE READING GNARLS BARKLEY SHARE "SOUL" MP3S, VIDS»

Gnarls, Kanye, White Stripes, Death Cab Win Early VMAs

Big wins from artists you enjoy! Big, technical award wins. The 2008 VMAs air this Sunday night, with a more depressing list of performers (reportedly Britney, definitely the Jonas Brothers) and nominees (see: this) than ever. But good on MTV...  CONTINUE READING GNARLS, KANYE, WHITE STRIPES, DEATH CAB WIN EARLY VMAS»

Lollapalooza 2008: Sunday In Photos

By Scott Lapatine & Amrit Singh It wasn't always smooth, but it was definitely memorable: Lollapalooza's top-heavy booking panned out this year, giving each night a bit of magic and each day an air of anticipation. Day Last didn't exactly...  CONTINUE READING LOLLAPALOOZA 2008: SUNDAY IN PHOTOS»

Gnarls Barkley Cover Radiohead

There aren't many voices that can do justice to a Thom Yorke melody. (We saw a bunch of our favorite bands take on the OK Computer movements with OKX to varying results.) But it just so happens Gnarls Barkley have...  CONTINUE READING GNARLS BARKLEY COVER RADIOHEAD»

New Gnarls Barkley Video - "Who's Gonna Save My Soul?"

The Internet got its first listen to "Who's Gonna Save My Soul?" when ?uestlove leaked it (as much as you can call sharing a good friend's track with permission a "leak") to YouTube. It was no simple, static-image YouTube stream,...  CONTINUE READING NEW GNARLS BARKLEY VIDEO - "WHO'S GONNA SAVE MY SOUL?"»

Violent Femmes Cover Gnarls Barkley

On St. Elsewhere, Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse covered the Violent Femmes' "Gone Daddy Gone." Gordon Gano & Co. have now returned the favor, offering their take on "Crazy." New Gnarls Barkley Video - "Going On"

As we may have told you, much of the Odd Couple will make you fall asleep. Some won't, though, and "Going On" is definitely one of Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse's best post-St. Elsewhere jams. Fittingly then, the Wendy Morgan-directed video...  CONTINUE READING NEW GNARLS BARKLEY VIDEO - "GOING ON"»

Gnarls Barkley Getting Odd A Few Weeks Early

Premature Evaluation: Gnarls Barkley - The Odd Couple

Danger Mouse has somehow draped a blanket of Mr. Sandman drowsiness over The Odd Couple. It's not a boring album -- well, some of it is -- but there's a late-night a.m. radio haze to the whole thing, so that...  CONTINUE READING PREMATURE EVALUATION: GNARLS BARKLEY - THE ODD COUPLE»

New Gnarls Barkley - "Who's Gonna Save My Soul"

New Gnarls Barkley Video (Feat. Justin Timberlake) - "Run"

New Gnarls Barkley - "Run"

There's gotta be something at least a little liberating about trying to follow up an album with a single as big as "Crazy"; there's just no fucking way it's happening! And everybody knows it. So the first sounds to drip from Gnarls's post-St. Elsewhere repertoire is a fat-beat Austin Powersy party soul jam, with Cee-Lo working up a sweat running for his life and Dangermouse sounding like he's been listening to lots of Mark Ronson. No horns, though; also, no idea if this will be a single from this year's The Odd Couple. But like everyone, we know it won't be as big as "Crazy," and that doesn't stop it from being a pretty good time.
