New She & Him Video - "Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?"

You'd probably watch if it was two and a half minutes of Zooey sleeping, but with its animated beheadings, undead nuns, and Pac-Man ghosts, She & Him's first music video is much more fun/morbid. Director Ace Norton's blog hinted at...  CONTINUE READING NEW SHE & HIM VIDEO - "WHY DO YOU LET ME STAY HERE?"»

Jim James To Release One Album With M. Ward & Conor Oberst, Another As "An Asian Country Star"

Bless that guy. This info comes via the new Rolling Stone, which is great for fans of huge Obama faceshots (see: the cover, complete with flag-pinned lapel), not so great for its headscratching Bonnaroo coverage. Kanye's set "revitalized the crowd"...  CONTINUE READING JIM JAMES TO RELEASE ONE ALBUM WITH M. WARD & CONOR OBERST, ANOTHER AS "AN ASIAN COUNTRY STAR"»

She & Him Live - "Take It Back," "You've Really Got a Hold on Me," & "Change Is Hard" (Lillywhite Session)

That's not a comment on the whiteness of She & Him's music. I'm kidding, M. Ward has soul. But seriously, it's because Zooey and Matt recorded a session with Steve Lillywhite. Scarlett, Zooey beat you again: Sitek's hep now, but...  CONTINUE READING SHE & HIM LIVE - "TAKE IT BACK," "YOU'VE REALLY GOT A HOLD ON ME," & "CHANGE IS HARD" (LILLYWHITE SESSION)»

She & Him & Yo La Tengo & Conan

M. Ward recently told the New York Times: As long as people are listening to the songs first and not getting too caught up with who is making the songs, I'm happy. Agreed, and the surprisingly good Volume One would...  CONTINUE READING SHE & HIM & YO LA TENGO & CONAN»

SXSW: Friday In Photos

The original plan on Friday was to see Zooey and Matt Ward (the she and him of She & Him) at Merge's 12AM showcase at the Parish, because she's got a good voice and he's cute. And vice versa. But...  CONTINUE READING SXSW: FRIDAY IN PHOTOS»

Premature Evaluation: She & Him - Volume One

There's obviously going to be a lot of nitpicking around She & Him. Every album's subjected to scrutiny, but when a full-time actor or actress decides to showcase her songwriting chops, folks' suspicions are usually stronger than his or her...  CONTINUE READING PREMATURE EVALUATION: SHE & HIM - VOLUME ONE»

Jenny Lewis Goes Solo Again

We're not sure if the Watson Twins are joining her, but Jenny is taking a break from Blake and the Under The Blacklight crew for another record in her own name. She'll have tons of other company on the LP, though, including beau Johnathan Rice and Interpol touring member "Farmer Dave" Scher (huh?), along with guest vocalists Chris Robinson, M. Ward, Elvis Costello (whoa), and Zooey Deschanel. Jenny and Zooey will be in the same room. What a hot great idea. (Hat tip to Muzzle of Bees for the heads up.)

New She & Him (Zooey Deschanel & M. Ward) - "Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?"

You'd think the collaboration of indie folkie M. Ward and indie hottie Zooey Deschanel would be a match made in Stereogum heaven ... and you'd be right. The two have finished work on their project's first volume, Volume One: two...  CONTINUE READING NEW SHE & HIM (ZOOEY DESCHANEL & M. WARD) - "WHY DO YOU LET ME STAY HERE?"»

M. Ward & Zooey Deschanel Cover Richard & Linda Thompson

Remember when Zooey told Patrick Fugit to "Listen to Tommy with a candle burning, and you'll see your future"? Not the greatest advice, but you did it 'cause she has those huge, hypnotizing eyes? Well Zooey's used those powers of...  CONTINUE READING M. WARD & ZOOEY DESCHANEL COVER RICHARD & LINDA THOMPSON»

M. Ward, Jim James, Nek0 Case D0 C0nan

Sly YouTube user neokyle thwarted our efforts at YouTube searching by spelling the program which M. Ward, Neko Case, and Jim James performed on last week as C0nan 0'Brien, but it's for the best 'cause it means it'll probably slip...  CONTINUE READING M. WARD, JIM JAMES, NEK0 CASE D0 C0NAN»

M. Ward For President!

Head over to AOL's The Interface for two live cuts from Post-War, "Paul's Song" from Transistor Radio, and to listen to M. Ward's smokey, mellow drawl in conversation. Funny how Conor Oberst's presidential proclamation while doing Kilborn in '04 was...  CONTINUE READING M. WARD FOR PRESIDENT!»
