Depeche Mode/Peter Bjorn & John @ Santa Barbara Bowl, Santa Barbara 8/20/09

This is a special Depeche Mode photo set Andrew Youssef delivered: there are no photos of Dave Gahan with his shirt off! Increyable. The singer's recent illness forced the band to cancel a spate of dates, so chalk it up...  CONTINUE READING DEPECHE MODE/PETER BJORN & JOHN @ SANTA BARBARA BOWL, SANTA BARBARA 8/20/09»

Stream Peter Bjorn & John's Living Thing

The Swede poppers made headlines for the wrong reasons at SXSW, but the new album remains a charming departure from Writer's Block. Try the Graceland-nodding title track, dig on the rest at MySpace. ...  CONTINUE READING STREAM PETER BJORN & JOHN'S LIVING THING»

New Peter Morén (Feat. Tobias Fröberg) Live Video - "Le Petit Coeur"

What we have here is an intimate, sensitive, doe-eyed performance of "Le Petit Coeur" -- the French-peppered The Last Tycoon tune we first heard as a demo -- shot in Morén's apartment. Not entirely solo (sorry Bjorn and John), Peter's...  CONTINUE READING NEW PETER MORéN (FEAT. TOBIAS FRöBERG) LIVE VIDEO - "LE PETIT COEUR"»

Stereogum's Texas Music Trivia - Round 2

In addition to shooting a ton of performances in Austin last week, we subjected many of our favorite acts to Texas music trivia. You saw part one. In this follow-up, we test the smarts of Islands, My Brightest Diamond, Peter...  CONTINUE READING STEREOGUM'S TEXAS MUSIC TRIVIA - ROUND 2»

SXSW: Peter Morén Performs At PASTE/Stereogum Party

As previously mentioned, Peter Morén brought a blissful, mellow close to the opening day of our Volume party. Tunes from his prematurely enjoyed Last Tycoon sounded great live, especially with the addition of local strings players. (Probably cheaper than bringing...  CONTINUE READING SXSW: PETER MORéN PERFORMS AT PASTE/STEREOGUM PARTY»

SXSW: Thursday In Photos

Interested in filling a rock club to the rafters? Simple: Just have Nada Surf and Destroyer play back to back sometime. People were stuffed asses to elbows at Volume night club for the first day of the Stereogum/PASTE party, although...  CONTINUE READING SXSW: THURSDAY IN PHOTOS»

Premature Evaluation: Peter Morén - The Last Tycoon

As we mentioned, when discussing the demos at Peter Morén's MySpace, he sounds a tad sad without Bjorn and John. He also sounds wordy. And like Wham!. And Robyn Hitchcock (especially Eye). Recorded over two years, Morén's first solo album...  CONTINUE READING PREMATURE EVALUATION: PETER MORéN - THE LAST TYCOON»

SXSW: Thursday Party Picks

If you're a party hopper, today is your day. Well if you allow us to be biased for a minute ... you probably should head to Volume for our party (My Brightest Diamond, Nada Surf, Destroyer, Peter Morén, et al)...  CONTINUE READING SXSW: THURSDAY PARTY PICKS»

New Peter Morén - "Social Competence"

We'll be honest: When we booked Peter for our SXSW party, it was without regard to his solo stuff. We hadn't heard but a few old demos but that didn't matter -- we're Peter Bjorn & John fans. This last...  CONTINUE READING NEW PETER MORéN - "SOCIAL COMPETENCE"»

Stereogum & PASTE Present The Dell Lounge @ SXSW 2008

So, we're pretty excited. Three days, great bands, free drinks all day, new club on 6th St. (right next door to Emo's). There go all your excuses not to be there. More info? This way......  CONTINUE READING STEREOGUM & PASTE PRESENT THE DELL LOUNGE @ SXSW 2008»

New Old Peter Morén Demos

Peter sounds a little sad on the three spare, folky demos he's posted at MySpace. They're early guitar/vocal sketches for the new album ... let's call it young folk. He says he added 'em because, "it felt a bit empty here without any music." Guessing it also feels a bit empty without Bjorn, John, and Kanye. Judging from the photo to the right, he's also missing his neck. (via P4K)

Hear Some Peter Tunes, Without The Bjorn & John

PB&J get around. And honestly, it's pretty cool to see the band diversify and keep busy in light of what must be some sweet royalty checks from the ongoing "Young Folks" effect. John's an in demand session player, missing tours...  CONTINUE READING HEAR SOME PETER TUNES, WITHOUT THE BJORN & JOHN»
