New Santogold, Julian Casablancas & Pharrell - "My Drive Thru"

It's an unlikely trio of artist that are helping get Converse's centennial celebration underway. Maybe not the pairing of Pharrell and Santogold -- actually it's somewhat surprising that this is their first project together -- but Strokes lead man Julian...  CONTINUE READING NEW SANTOGOLD, JULIAN CASABLANCAS & PHARRELL - "MY DRIVE THRU"»

Santogold, Julian Casablancas And Pharrell Are Converse All Stars

What do you get when you combine the selling power of Bud Light's Santogold with the laconic New York charm of the Stroke's Casablancas and the non-laconic L.A. sizzle of N.E.R.D.-y Pharrell Williams (not featuring Lindsay Lohan)? Basically, a well-produced...  CONTINUE READING SANTOGOLD, JULIAN CASABLANCAS AND PHARRELL ARE CONVERSE ALL STARS»

New N.E.R.D. (Feat. Lindsay Lohan) Video - "Everybody Nose"

Yeah not "Feat." Lindsay Lohan in a way that'll do much for her artistic cred. You actually get the sense, from the quick shot scene and her visible irritation, that Chad and Pharrell actually caught her with cam in hand...  CONTINUE READING NEW N.E.R.D. (FEAT. New Jay-Z (Feat. Pharrell) - "I Know"

Director Philip Andelman gives American Gangster's most smoothed out nighttime track a fittingly low-lighted, evening air -- "four separate and unrelated stories, four unique trips taken on by four girls in one night in New York City," is the pitch...  CONTINUE READING NEW JAY-Z (FEAT. New N.E.R.D. - "Everyone Nose"

Pharrell and N.E.R.D. have been on our minds a lot lately, the In Search Of...-era coming up by way of comparison when describing to friends the production ticks and sleazy beats of "Golden Prize," the first single from Apes & Androids' awesome debut LP. So, news of new N.E.R.D. is welcome, particularly because, as expected, they're flashing some new looks. And we dig at least one of them: The sax 'n' double-bass verses kill, but the hooks are soporifically smoothed out and the "all the girls standing in the line..." line is just another slice of "B.O.O.T.A.Y." Don't think Apes & Androids will sound like this anytime soon. N.3.R.D. is out sometime this spring.

Mini CRS, Mini Thom Yorke Make A Video For "Us Placers"

Kanye, remember when times were simpler, when you had your innocence and shit wasn't so ham-fistedly black and white? Well, even if he doesn't, this VA$HTIE-directed video for "Us Placers" from Kanye's Can't Tell Me Nothing mix finds cute lil'...  CONTINUE READING MINI CRS, MINI THOM YORKE MAKE A VIDEO FOR "US PLACERS"»

New Jay-Z (Feat. Pharrell) - "Blue Magic"

Seems like only a week ago we learned of that irascible Jigga's inability to stay retired with the announcement of American Gangster, Sean's second record since 'calling it quits' in '03. That's 'cause it was only a week ago --...  CONTINUE READING NEW JAY-Z (FEAT. PHARRELL) - "BLUE MAGIC"»

New Madonna (Feat. Pharrell) - "The Beat Goes On"

We know, a new Madonna track isn't exactly an 'event' anymore (particularly after the decidedly uneventful Live Earth ballad "Hey You"), but there's been enough news about her Madgesty's rumored collabs for her forthcoming, eleventh studio effort that we figured...  CONTINUE READING NEW MADONNA (FEAT. Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, & Pharrell Sample Thom Yorke

Thanks to Roman for taking time out of his weekend festivities to drop a line about a new Lupe track "sampling" Thom Yorke's "The Eraser" (really, it's the track mostly unmodified with Fiasco, Kanye, and Pharrell taking turns with their...  CONTINUE READING LUPE FIASCO, KANYE WEST, & PHARRELL SAMPLE THOM YORKE»

New Madonna - "Hey You"

A freak-folk tribute to Madonna is on its way, this summer sees her involvement in the Gore-curated, Geldof-slammed Live Earth spectacle, and today the material mom releases a single in celebration of the vaguely environment-saving celebration. A renaissance for Madge?...  CONTINUE READING NEW MADONNA - "HEY YOU"»

Premature Evaluation: Gwen Stefani - The Sweet Escape

From what we've read, Gwen Stefani was preparing an EP of L.A.M.B.'s bananas-lite leftovers. Pharrell thought they could pull off a full-length sequel. And that's how The Sweet Escape was born. Inspiring, right? Album two offers more of the same,...  CONTINUE READING PREMATURE EVALUATION: GWEN STEFANI - THE SWEET ESCAPE»

Band To Watch: The Neighbourhood Council

After two weeks of reader-tipped BTWs from Lawrence, Kansas, we mentioned there seemed to be something going on in that city, despite William S. Burroughs up and dying a few years ago. After the proclamation went out, we received notes...

Quit Your Day Job: Ungdomskulen

The Bergen trio Ungdomskulen play proggy post punk, mixing chops and hooks with a sense of humor. But they don't sound like Primus. When I was in Norway a couple years ago, "Ungdomskulen" seemed to be on everybody's lips (or...

Premature Evaluation: Beck - Modern Guilt

It's been some time since we learned Modern Guilt, Beck Hansen's eighth album, would be some sort of psych rock minimalist '60s trip with Danger Mouse. Since then, we've gotten a look at the old-school jazz/Blue Note-style cover art and...

The Outsiders: Vol. 15: Clark, My Brightest Diamond, Wildbirds & Peacedrums

Damien Jurado - "Murderer" (Low Cover)

After hearing "Gillian Was A Horse" from Damien Jurado's forthcoming Caught In The Trees, we contacted the Seattle singer-songwriter and asked if he'd want to premiere a track at Stereogum. Lucky for us (and you), it turned out he had...
